Eckhard Pfeiffer, former CEO of Compaq Computers has decided to take on a pleasant switch from hardware to software. Will his contribution as the chairman of Accoona.com be significant enough to be noticed?

Hi folks, sorry. I think i should have first introduced myself since i am new to this forum. I am a web designer and love to keep in touch with the goings-on in the world thru the net!
The other day i stumbled upon this search engine called Accoona.com which gave me very relevant results. Thats what got me exploring more on this site and i realised that Pfeiffer has been named its CEO. I was surprised and so just started it as a topic of discussion......
There is a lot of action in the offing in the search space since Google, Yahoo, Accoona and MSN are all trying to beat each ther in trying to revolutionize user experience.............dont miss it!

Falcon... your fine. Next time, add some information to what your talking about. If your talking about anything nVidia/graphic card related, expect most everyone to know what you mean, no matter how out-in-left-field it might be. Other than that (including personal hygeine) no one is going to have a clue. Also, another reason you got alot of weird "huh" replies is the fact that you said Compaq and CEO. No one likes Compaq and due to the fact that the guy ran the company. They won't like him either.
Keep posting and reading.

ya im just teasing you!! and welcome to the forums !!!!
Thanks folks, i feel much better now.........
And those simple rules (thanks to retsam) about 'posting and you' were also interesting tho i thot there cud have been more to it, it was too basic, too small to know the big world of forums..
Since i am a search enthusiast, i was kinda interested in Accoona as google and yahoo have been my pets for long now. The human mind is always attracted to change, to something new....change being the most permanent thing on earth..yeah?
You still sound like a commercial.

I think that the thing is, google created the first search engine that ever actually worked. Before google, most search engines were commonly prone to people cheating by hiding all kinds of crap underneath meta tags, etc, so that they could artificially put their webpage on the top of the search. Google made it so that for the first time, you find what you want to find, not what somebody else wants you to find.
Another thing google also did was change the definition of how a search engine should look and feel. I remember back in 1997 where pretty much every search engine resembled the current godaddy.com homepage, and also not to mention was loaded with popups and goofy little java scripts that made cars drive across your screen as part of some advertisement. Googles "innovative" idea (which was mostly just common sense) was that when somebody hits a search engine page, all they want to do is search, not go through a big convoluted advertising mess.
Google has also made it quite clear that they aren't going to ruin any of the improvements that they have given us either. If any other search engine were as popular as google, their "genious" engineers would start telling them that if they added more graphics, they could make more money, and they would just get more convoluted again.
Now I am guessing that maybe you work for accooma, so allow me to give you some constructive criticism. This accooma website is already starting to give me the impression that it will be like yet another one of the sites described above. Let me tell you that theres nothing more annoying than when a website asks you to bookmark it or to make it your start page. Stupid search bars and web portals that are commonly associated with hijacking spyware do that all the time, and in fact in many cases they force that as your start page. If it annoys me, then I am sure it annoys many other people as well, so step one is to get rid of that, and also to make it clear that your search engine will become more simple and sleek over time, not convoluted.
Step two would be to try and offer something that google doesn't. Since most of us are already satisfied with the results we get from google, why would we want to switch to another search engine that only promises better results than what we already consider to be perfect?
By something that google doesn't offer, I am not talking about cheesy software that you can install on your browser toolbar or some crap like that which has done a billion times before. Maybe you could start with a better image search than google does, because I am telling you right now that googles image search really sucks. Maybe you could make a search that is faster, maybe even a cache system that offers a nice and instant 1:1 copy of a website (images and all, which google does not do) that might be going slow at the moment, and even allow deeplinks that are native to that site so that the user can navigate within that site through your search engine even if that site is down.
I know that might be infeasible or expensive, but thats more the reason that you should get your engineers cracking at an affordable yet elegant solution. As I am sure you are well aware, the search engine market is highly competitive, so people have plenty of room to be picky here.
