View Full Version : Buying the Nvidia DVD Decoder - Bronce, Gold, Platinum. PowerDVD?
Hi,
I tried the Nvidia DVD Decoder and decided to buy it :)
However, I don't know which one I should buy: the Bronce (19.95$), Gold (29.95$) or Platinum (49.95$) version... (which one is the trial version?)?
I just have stereo-speakers (Altec Lansing) - which one would you recommend?
The comparison (and the only difference):
Dolby Digital 2 Channel: B / G / P
Dolby Digital 5.1: - / G / P
Dolby Pro Logic II: - / G / P
Dolby Headphone: - / G / P
DTS: - / - / P
S/PDIF Pass Through: B / G / P
Or should I buy CyberLink's PowerDVD 6 (Standard: ~39.90EUR, Deluxe: ~69.90EUR)
Thanks!
No recommendations...?

As you have only 2 speakers, why not use windows media player 10? it's free.

get powerdvd6. it's the best dvd decoder. it does everything purevideo does and then some.
Use PowerDVD 6, Its the best damn player I have ever used :) I tried NVDVD, and I'm really not too fond of it actually.

Me neither. I found the IQ was crap compared to PowerDVD 6 or WinDVD 6

Because I would like to make use of the hardware acceleration of my 6600GT ;)
EDIT: what's "IQ"?

You guys are funny. I will let you guys in on a secret this question has been asked by hundreds of people on the AVS forum, and the popular conclusion has been that when used with a NVIDIA 6 series card NVDVD produces a clearer and truer picture than the heavily processed PDVD6. This is from people who have true Home Theater equipment with properly calibrated HD projectors and monitors. Who have spent the time and effort to test all the offerings and they have screen shots to prove which has the better picture. I myself have used many combinations of Power DVD with FFdshow and Dscaler5, Zoom player with Win DVD and FFdshow, the only DVD program I haven’t tried is TheaterTek and it uses NVDVD codec’s exclusively. My personal experience with all of these on my Toshiba 51" HDTV using a XFX GF6600GT and the DVI out nothing beats NVDVD.
But like anything else in life "your mileage may vary” in your situation and in answer to your original question using just 2 speakers the Bronze package would be perfect. Hope you get something you like. :)
Windows media player classic, it supports a dx9 renderer, plus dolby stereo, image and sound quality are both great.

TheaterTek is the best player available, being able to use VMR9 Renderless and FFDshow. WinDVD and PowerDVD pale in comparison.
Or, you can just use ZoomPlayer 4 Professional with the DScaler v006 MPEG2 decoder and AC3filter. This might require a bit of tweaking, but at least you'll be able to use VMR9 (Windowless).

I've seen also silver version with DD 5.1 supprot.
My vote for NVDVD, it's really the best quality picture in my experience.

.
Especially now that Logitech Setpoint 2.3 supports the playback functions w/ my mediaplay mouse. Seriously got tired of having to reinstall PowerDVD6 all the time because of sound abnormalities. (ambient sound with no voices) For all I know though it could have been caused by Creative crappy drivers and not PDVD itself.
