We have just recieved our Quadro FX 4400 and have been trying to judge its
performance. We notice that when using twinview we get about 1/4 the
performance than without it. Is this right? We did this on linux just using
glxgears standard size window. Without twinview its a little over 12000fps
but with twinview turned on its way down to 3000fps. We have a crust geforec4
that can do that speed with twinview turned on . . .

This performance hit also seems to appear in windows (just subjective
testing with some nvidia demos) so it seems not to be a linux vs windows
driver issue.

Anyone have any ideas if this situation is going to improve ?

If it makes you feel any better, although I suspect it won't, we get the same performance hit. 4400 running on a dual 3.6GHz Xeon is unbearably slow running any of the nvidia demos in windows twin headed (unless you select single-headed performance mode in the advanced settings, but that obviously kills 3D on one display).

Same experience under linux, although interestingly it still flies with SPECViewperf with it set as dual headed (not measurably different from single headed). I'm confused why...

Something I missed off. Looking back at our older Quadro FX 3000 cards, they show the same issue, but it never caused us any problems using them, even though they were running 2 x 1920x2400.

hate to start a new question here.
i have a quadrofx 3000 on a abit ic7-g 2gb ram
running twinview
my glxgears shows :
3168 frames in 5.0 seconds = 633.600 FPS
2399 frames in 5.0 seconds = 479.800 FPS
2576 frames in 5.0 seconds = 515.200 FPS
2743 frames in 5.0 seconds = 548.600 FPS
2527 frames in 5.0 seconds = 505.400 FPS
2595 frames in 5.0 seconds = 519.000 FPS

where is this 3000 4000 fps commin from?
are u high or am I ?
:)
edit ; sig is out dated by 5mo sorry

Depends. Are you running that at the default window size, or have you increased it? If that's with the default size, you're massively under. For comparison, my old Ti4200 gets ~1000fps, dropping to about 120fps at 1280x1024.
