Before the clash, Zainitdin Kurmanov, a leader of the My Country opposition party, said the demonstrators would not leave the square until Akayev resigned and called for an overhaul of the political system.

"We want to create a genuinely democratic Kyrgyzstan," he said, stressing that the protesters would not storm the government headquarters or confront police.

At the initial rally, Interior Minister Keneshbek Dushebayev addressed the crowd and urged them to obey laws. However, in a departure from his warnings the day before of a possible crackdown that could include "special means and firearms," he vowed Thursday that no force would be used against peaceful protesters.

"I promise here that force will not be used against the people," he said.

Winds of change are blowing through the area!

Used to be part of the CCCP. When it broke apart, it became independant. They held elections, and the old Soviet leader was elected, to no surprise (he was the only person anyone knew the name of).

Since then, he has rigged every election to stay in power. He must know he is busted, else he would not have fled to quickly.

CCCP?

You mean USSR?

Sounds akin to Ukraine.

Putin must be getting his panties in a bunch.

-edit-

Seems to be a full-fledged armed toppling of the previous government.

THAT is a little off. Armed revolution usually installs, eventually, a dictatorship of sorts and should be a cause for concern to the other nations in the region.

Yeah, small ethnic muslim area that used to be a commie puppet now looks after itself. Good for the people, but its a squeezed pimple on the ass of the world in context..

CCCP was their letters for it. Yes, in English it was USSR.

The domino effect seems to work for Democracy as well as Communism!

It also applies to war.
