View Full Version : US deserter denied refugee status
finally, after a long process, Hinzman, a deserter, is likely to be deported back to the US (but i wouldn't be surprised if he appeals the sentence) to face trial. our immigration is such a mess; we let anyone step off a plane, claim refugee status, then begin a long process to determine whether or not the claim is valid.
Hinzman claimed that he faced persecution if he was returned to the US. rather, he was afraid of prosecution.
Hinzman joined the army in 2001 and trained as a paratrooper. He said he signed up at his father's urging because it allowed him to receive a university education.
But he says his thinking changed after going through combat training, in which he claims he was ordered to chant, "Trained to kill and kill we will." He says that's when realized he had problems with "taking human life."

Exactly. So far, of all the idiots who thought they could flee, only one has been allowed to stay. He had dual US and Canadian citizenship.
It was different during Vietnam...people were DRAFTED to fight. Everything in the current military VOLUNTEERED to fight. Wonder what they thought would happen if they joined the ARMED Forces? Maybe sit around drinking tea with their pinkies in the air?

Ok, let's get this straight. The military recruits these losers, trains them, and then these people want to run away because they might get sent into combat? WHAT THE HELL? They'll take gays, women, and pussies, but they won't recruit ME? I'm exactly what they need, yet they ban me! Jesus, I'm starting to wish I had never been a pothead, not that there's anything wrong with it...the laws are just ignorant, as are the people who think grass is worse than alcohol in any way. No, I don't regret it, but something should have already been done about these stupid laws, and these stupid recruits.
BTW, my story is that I have been banned from every American branch of the military because I had several cases of simple possession of marijuana on my record. They kept telling me a was blacklisted for such and such amount of time...go back, it's been extended...keep going back...same story, until they tell me not to ever come back, due to bannishment. I'm sorry, but there's something really messed up about that. There was even a drug DEALER in my town that was not only accepted, but dragged into the Marines (his recruiter found out what he was into, and took him away to boot camp immediately). This is embarrassing, especially in a city where a LOT of guys join up. Everytime I hear about someone from around here dying in combat, I wish I could take their place. :banghead:
EDIT: I tried to enlist AGAIN after 9/11/01, and that's when they told me not to ever bother again, that I was blacklisted permanently. It broke my f*cking heart, that all those people died, and there was nothing I could directly do about it. While many may have felt that way, it was ever more so for me.
This guy deserves all that he has coming to him.
Hundreds of thousands of people sign up through the armed services for university help, my sister-in-law did the same and she is going of her own free will on assignment for 3 years as required per the terms and conditions she agreed to.
You can't mooch off of tax-payers money and then chicken out when the going gets tough. Heck if I could pass my eye exams for the air force I would be there in a heart-beat.

Sorry for the problems you have faced, I can understand how you feel, though I did not find myself in your same position.
The reason they denied you is because you showed a flagrant disrespect for law, order, and society as a whole. If you only had one incident on your record, they would have waved it, as they could have said you learned from a mistake. You showed you did not want to learn, and that you felt you were above the law and rules by having multiple incidents on your record.
The military does not want to have people who repeatedly show they will not obey simple rules.
Hope that explains the why for you. The recruiters should have told you as much, but probably did not.
EDIT: As an aside, I spent a little over 8 years in the Navy on fast attack submarines. Run Silent, Run Deep!

What's that film where the druggies are in charge of the tank and run amok at the army base in Germany ? That is really funny, however it does tend to back up Cybersage's point above in that if you cannot police yourself then you cannot expect to police other people armed with an F-16 or whatever.

The military can get you in if you have only one felony on your record, if you have more than that or are a repeat offender (drug charges) then you may as well forget about it. That's showing a complete lack of respect for the law.
The guy you know who's a drug dealer got in cause he didn't get caught.
