Just began playing cs:s and the grass SUX...when I get close to it it shines and sparkles and it looks like my AF isn't even activated. No problems like this in HL2 itself. (I'm new to cs altogether...)

I find this is driver caused and would like to know if someone knows of some that will make this stop WITHOUT the temp increase crap happening too.

And about that temp problem with the 71.84's (i think it's those and higher?) Is it really making the temp higher or just REPORTING it higher?

Any suggestions? I've been running 71.22's without problems on anything else.

66.93 or 71.84 dont have that shiny grass use one of those. As the 76.10 has a model shadow bug.

Plenty more too. For me, it's actually raising the temps. It's not misread, but draw your own conclusions.

Another post by me that'll I'll just quote that sums it up.

cards that are affected have a default 2d core speed of 400MHz or less, my default 2D core speed is 400MHz and the drivers that raise the temps are 71.40. 71.50, 71.80, 71.81, 71.83, 71.84, 71.90 and 75.90.....70.41, 70.78, 70.90, 71.20, 71.21, 71.22, 71.25 don't raise the temps. Overclocking my 2D speed to 401MHz will cause the temps to drop from aroud 68*C to 57*C and this drop can be verified by measuring the air temp coming out of the cooling fan housing.

76.10 also has the temp bug. Drivers dated after march 8th should be fixed (so says EP). I havn't heard of any 6x.xx drivers raising the temps either, so you should be ok with those.
If your ultra's 2d core speed is higher than 400, you won't see a difference.

Open console and type in:

mat_specular 0

That fixes the prob.

That doesnt fix anything actually it takes away the cool specular map that makes the tiles/walls shiney in CSS. Not a fix its a work around.

Yeah, 76.41's.

No shiny grass, no temp bug. Just blazin performance.

Yeah, 76.41's.

No shiny grass, no temp bug. Just blazin performance.

And glitchy sound pops. For me at least. 71.84 smooth and no popping.

Yeah, starting to get those myself. I'm thinking its caused by some oddball latency settings, I'm going to check if disabling FW will do a quick-fix.

Its tolerable in CS:S, downright aggravating in FlatOut.
