i am using NVIDIA ForceWare drivers v71.84 although it seems that these problems are present for me with any ForceWare drivers, no matter how new or old

i am using an Asus NVIDIA GeForce FX 5800, Windows XP Pro, DirectX 9.0c

these problems happen in pretty much all of my games

first, i have bits of textures disappearing all the time. here are two examples:

on this one, part of his coat is missing
http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/stranger%20prob004.jpg

http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/manhunt007.jpg

and sometimes my graphics totally freak out and weird stuff like this happens below. although the image below and things like that occur rarely whereas the two problems above occur always, at all times

http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/stranger%20prob003.jpg

another very common problem that i have are lines of either black dots, or white dots running across portions of the screen. here are some examples.

http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/runewtf002.jpg

the white dotted line is along the pavement of the doorway just in front of the NPC in this one
http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/kainwtf002.jpg

http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/doom3wtf008.jpg

this one below is from LoK: Defiance; you will see that there is a line in the middle of the blue swirl in the lower lefthand corner. that line is only present for me in this game when i turn on the in-game option "Fullscreen Effects" which makes the spiritual realm of the game all freaky. but i don't want to turn off Fullscreen Effects; i want them. i just don't want that stupid line which does not belong there in the life meter swirl :thumbdwn:

http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/kainwtf004.jpg

here you can see a black line down the middle of the picture which is not supposed to be there
http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/undyingwtf010.jpg

and i also get lines like that straight down the middle of NPC's faces too. it's hard to see in this shot but if it would help i can go later and dig out some KOTOR shots in which the problem is much more noticeable
http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/doom3wtf014.jpg

to summarize, i am looking for answers as to what is causing and how to fix the following graphics problems:

1. disappearing textures

2. lines of black dots or white dots

3. black lines down the middle of walls and/or NPC faces

4. anomaly lines like the one shown in the swirl life meter

these things having been bugging me for a long time. i would be eternally grateful for any good advice on what is causing and how to 100% get rid of these problems.

thank you

I see nothing wrong, most of the issues are game issues and not videcard problems. Many of the issues that your pointed out are flaws in the games graphics engine, you are playing all old games. In Doom3 there is nothing wrong.

Yup I was just about to say everything he said :)

the only other issue it COULD be, and mind you, note the large could to the left here, is heat. the way to figure out if its heat or not is get a large box fan, open your case, and turn that fan on high and blow it into your case. if the problem dissappears, now you know its a cooling issue.

if it does nothing, see above.

No offense emailthatguy, but your wrong... that is no where near an issue caused by overheating. Those are not artifacts, boot up Clive Barkers Undying or Rune and you will see the same thing. Those are old games running on the first unreal engine.

As you can see by his Doom 3 image, there is nothing wrong at all.

ok guys the issue is definetly NOT overheating...if it was something that simple i wouldn't have wasted my time to make this thread

as for you saying all the problems are "game issues"...that is not true either. i know for a fact that the disappearing texture on Stranger's coat is NOT a game issue...the devs designed that properly and it used to work fine many years ago on my old computer.

i'm sure the disappearing strap on his back in Manhunt whenever i "zoom in" with the shotgun is NOT normal either. or any time my textures disappear in any of the other billions of games that i play.

in the Doom 3 shot of the doorway, the problem is the white dotted line on the righthand side

Sometimes as drivers and video cards get newer performance on older games degrades in this case thats probably what happend. and that white line on doom3 is normal you dont have aa or af on it happends on all cards.

sorry, i must have not read that properly. the reason for that is because i was somewhat agitated that thus far no one has been able to offer any solution to any of the problems i posted. i thought you guys were the knowledable experts on this sort of stuff. hence it is very frustrating to compile a bunch of screenshots for you guys and then make a thread only to be offered zero useful advice on how to solve any of the issues raised in that thread. in my agitation, i misread. i'll make extra effort to read more carefully next time.

i just went into Doom 3 and made sure 4X AA was on

then i took another screenshot

http://webhome.look.ca/~sgfrcsls/doom3AAonwtf.jpg

i could also get screenshots from other games where 4X AA and 8X AF is definitely on yet i still get this white dotted line crap and disappearing textures

it has been my experience that whether AA or AF are on or not has zero effect on these issues for me.

I could maybe diagnose you with Screenshot OCD , but as for the graphics.... cant see much wrong there bud.

Format your PC incase of any odd registry corruption if you haven't done so already, but graphics cards are like women ....if they nag and no matter what you do there is no compromise, get rid!

Use vsync. & stop nitpicking games. People like you nitpicking every thing makes me think that you only suck at the game so your constantly looking for any flaw to justify why you can no longer play. The screens are fine.

Try Rivatuner and use 6xS for AA. It got rid of a lot of jaggies for me and I was using 8xAA in the control panel! AA is broken, to my understanding, in some of the new drivers. Overall, your games do look okay, but if you really want to get rid of some of those lines/jaggies, etc., try Rivatuner.

i do use Vsync and it has no effect on these issues

yes i am nitpicking but i have good reason to. so many times i'm immersed in my games and having a great time, and then BANG - i see these corruptions in the image that instantly ruin my immersion and my day

besides that, i thought this place was where the "image *****s" on the net hang out. and please don't take that as an insult - i mean it as a compliment because i am an image ***** too

i wonder if i should just throw out my POS NVIDIA card, boycott NVIDIA for life, and go with ATI...perhaps that would get rid of all the flaws displayed in this thread?

It would get rid of at least one.

yeah but i wanna get rid of all of them, not just one

i notice thx to the advice in this thread that when i jack up AA to 8X it gets rid of the white dotted lines finally...but then the games are unplayable because they run too slow

but i still haven't seen any advice on how to get rid of the disappearing textures or the other problems listed

surely one of you guys knows how to do that?
