Just like to know what your thoughts are on registry cleaners? Are they dangerous? Helpful? Hell, do they work?

Where I work (small PC repair shop) they have started using a program called CCleaner and it works really well. It clears all temp folders for the login you are using, and it cleans the registry and fixes registry errors.
I installed it on my own computer today, and i forgot to uncheck "clear password lists", so I lost them and had to do passwords again on sites, but besides that it doesnt cause any problems and cleans up the system really well. I recommend it.
I have a reg cleaner but i dont really use it unless i'm really desprate .
a simple mistake might get you in trouble or delete important registries that will require a new installation for your OS.

Yeah thats the program, its probably the best new piece of software Ive seen in a while :)
I'll go add it to the useful programs thread.
Theres all sorts of reg cleaners out there. I've used many of them, from Norton's System Works to TuneUp Utilities to Registry First Aid, etc. They all seem to work pretty well. Best of all they make backups of the deleted entries so you can restore them just in case something goes wrong.
I still use jv16 PowerTools. The latest version before they started charging for it. On this install I must have used it at least 20 times without a single problem!
