Best Buy, right? I probably could have bought you one from Tiger Direct and shipped it to you for less than that. However, I suppose you would want to return it if you had a problem. ;)
I would have waited for the 518...
What a concidence .. i got me a second MX1000 today :D

Yeah, I finally got the forward/back buttons to work in FireFox and now...it's spectacular. And yeah, I could've gotten it cheaper online, but I needed it NOW, because the mouse I was using was a roommate's and he needed it. My trackball optical crapped out on me and so Iw as using his as an interim mouse.
'Sides, it didn't really cost me anything...I can get the company to pay for it. :)

Is the 518 as precise as the mx1000? E.g. is it still a laser mouse or is it just a conventional LED optical with a higher sensitivity? How does the mx1000 compare against the mx500 (my current mouse) as well?
I can buy the mx1000 for $35 at any time through a staples retail connection, but I want to find out if the 518 is any better first.

the 518 apparently has a 1600DPI resolution, double the MX1000...but that's just insane

I have an MX700 and an MX510 that i bought because the wire (not the USB the one that goes to the base port... the "other one") fell out and the MX700 wouldn't charge. Not sure which to use. OOOOOOOO! I could bring my MX700 to work and use the 510 at home maybe? the 510 is more precise right?

I liked the mouse's responsiveness, but I found it too heavy compared to my MX500, so I'll wait for the MX518.

I don't think it's too heavy and yeah, the responsiveness is just amazing...I was really hoping it would help with Far Cry, but I'm pretty sure the in-game mouse controls are just terrible. Even with the sensitivity cranked all the way, it still feels muddy, but at the same time, I whip around. Big movements are not a big deal, but small, precise movement is near impossible

The 1000 looks like a nice piece of kit. I think wireless keyboard/1000 combo looks awesome. There are times when I miss my MX700 - like when I'm watching a movie on the couch w/powerdvd and want to jump chapters. I have to get my lazy ass off the couch and get up to the PC in order to use the mouse. :)

Well, I can only buy one of each logitech product.
I can't find out if the mx518 uses the laser technology though. Higher DPI is one thing, but IIRC optical LED doesn't track as well as the laser version does, which would mean that it is much more prone to movement detection errors on some surfaces than the mx1000 is.

I'm pretty sure that the MX518 uses standard optical and not laser.

Yeah, so much for a gaming grade mouse then.
