how do you get rid of the web addresses in the address bar? removing history doesn't do it. im using winxp.

Not sure how else you can do that. Clearing history works just fine for me.

You can also try shutting off autocomplete. Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and uncheck the autocomplete box. Not sure if it actually works because mine was shut off, but it still would try to finish my web addresses from my history.

Autocomplete and history are two different things. Are you saying you can't clear history ?

When I clear my history, there are no more web addresses that show in the address bar. Also by shutting off autocomplete, addresses will not show up while typing in an address, even if they are listed in the drop down of the address bar. Just trying to cover both aspects...

well, the problem is that it usually works, but for some reason it isn't. is there anything in the registry or something i can remove to get rid of it? cause it's really getting annoying. i hate autocomplete. but if i turn it off, they go away. but when i turn it back on, there still there! i even cleared the history, temp, temporary internet files etc but the autocomplete in the address bar just wont go away!

basically it sounds like yer trying to disable autocomplete? I don't think theres an opt within IE to do that, you man wanna try one of the third-party proggies tweakui or tweak-xp.

Hey, Matthius

IE is not the only browser available and it isn't even the best one. You could try a different browser to see if it suits your needs, like Mozilla, Opera, Phoenix, and a lot more.

MyIE 2 (http://myie2.yeah.net/) is currently my fav, its everything you want IE to be and more. It also runs directly off the IE kernel so you can use it to browse to ssl sites for online banking and others. Its packed with a huge amount of features such as intergrated pop-up and adult content filters, address book, translators, web proxies, resume last viewed pages and more. Check it out, you might be suprised ;)
