Here (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/athlon64-venice.html) is first Athlon 64 3800+ Venice review by XbitLabs.

I will wait and see in a few weeks to see what the new prices will be, I probably will go for Athlon 64 4200+ with 1Mb cache if the price is right with my free betting money. :D

My A64 3800+ Newcastle is completely out dated now. :(

I agree. SSE3 is nice but it's not like I'm going to go run out and spend another few hundred on a CPU just so I can have it.

Will they be making a 3000+ Venice core? Anyone know?

Wait...I thought the only difference with the Venice core was that the multipliers were locked?

dangit, i just got my Winchester 3500. :(

This is a big reason I've been waiting to finish
building my new rig. ;)
I want the newest out when it's finished. :D
These babies should overclock like mad. :D

EDIT: I see that got 3ghz out of it.
2.8 stable. That's killer. It's a FX55 killer. ;)

I bet the 3000+ or 3200 will hit 2.7+.
It's going to be the overclockers dream chip.

So the Venice core ISN'T multiplier locked?

No, it's not. As long as Cool 'n' Quiet is around they can't completely lock the chips.

It runs a little warmer and uses a bit more power, but nothing significant. The core optimisations, higher clock potential and added features (SSE3) and compatibility (mem controller changes) make it worth buying over Winchester for sure.

Plus, It looks like people arent having any problems with getting older motherboards to post with the Venice core chips. This is a huge relief for anyone that doesnt want to buy 2 CPUs just so they can update their BIOS to get the newer chip running.

When will the dual-core CPUs debut? They're the only ones I really want to upgrade to in this year.

AMD will launch dual core Opterons first on 21 April 2005 (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22386), dual core Athlon FX probably will launch a quarter later in Q3 2005 and dual core Athlon 64 in Q4 2005.

I dont see many games coming out in a rush that will take advantage of dual core architectures much. So it dont matter much.

is there going to be an FX-57?

:)

Yes, there will be an FX-57.
Via Google you'll find some info 'bout it.
It's said to will be 2.8GHz, SSE3 supported, 90nm.

AMD will launch high end dual core CPU for desktop in June 2005 (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/cpu/display/20050410210218.html), I think that will be FX-57. If you dont want to wait longer for cheaper dual core Athlon 64 chip, maybe you could consideer get dual core Athlon FX that will come in June, I think the price will be much the same as it did with FX-55 when it launched. :)

Well I was going to go with the +4000 san diego but considering that will most likely hit the shelves at the same time as the high end dual core desktop it looks like I may have to really think about it again.
