View Full Version : Brian's VF700-Cu Review
Excellent review Brian, short and sweet. You covered the essential points and I can attest to your findings. In fact, in another thread on the VF700 many have found a 10C drop in temps can be expected.
Initially, I went from 58-61C, at idle, with a 6800GT to 48C using the 5V connection. After a month temps are now reading 51C but considering you cannot hear the fan I think that is still more than acceptable. Next time I open the case I am going to change to one of the 12V connections and see if my temps drop back under 50C at idle. :)

Thanks for the heads up about the temperature increase over time. The next time I open up my case I'm going to pull the card and replace the Zalman thermal paste with some AS5 and see if I get any temperature difference. I finally found my tube. This is just a kick-ass HSF.
Glad you liked the review!
Hmm, just checked my temps and they are back to 48C. Maybe I was dreaming or something? I may have been multi-tasking at the time and not running at what we call 'idle'...I use several graphic programs such as Freehand, PaintShop, etc. That was probably creating the slight increase in temps.
Nice review Brian, I was let down when I got a look at those nipples though. ;)

If you look hard enough on the Internet, you'll find plenty of other nipples that are more appealing than the ones on the Zalman. ;)

Nice review. I'm using a pair of these babies in my rig and I can definitely say they do a fabulous job.
Used to constantly worry about the temps with stock coolers, no worries now.

great cooler and a good review there.
EDIT
how about a direct comparison review with the NV5?
on the same setup and same conditions.. to give some closure to that debate..

Its just arrived :-)
got it all @ work so ill pop it in later
before VF700cu temps: idle core (57) load core (81) ambient (36)
ill edit the new temps in later.
EDIT: - just a quickie to say the sticky on the ramsinks is crap.
3 out of six just fell off!! I have got them back on but I think im gonna get and use some ceramic AS5 and make the join permanent.
Im still at work so will update new temps laters.
none of mine fell off..
Werent you supposed to let them sit for a min or two to let them harden for a while..
I think they reach maximum hold after about 24 hours or somesuch..
And once they had contact with a surface and you take them off they loose the adhesiveness (spelling prolly shot to hell but you get the idea), so if you took em off to reposition that would explain it..

nah positioning was fine - their on again now so lets hope they stay on.
im not to fussed as I can always stick em with some thermal adhesive.

TEMPS:
Idle core (47 - down 10) Load core (60 - down 22!!) ambient (36)
impressed - might drop another degree or two as the AS5 cures as well.
