thread got closed just when i was gunna join in.

imo this is actual gameplay footage. i think next gen hardware could easily pull this off. even though i know its a wierd shot (why in a football game would you ever need to be that close?) i still think its real time. if it is pre-rendered that is some seriously low-poly/low-texture resolution art work.

ps. please no warez talky this time.

looks pretty good, besides the textures :X

edit: to add something more than a silly comment. I think the next gen hardware could pull this off. if you consider that they will have very fast cpu's (4.6ghz cell or 3x3ghz for the xbox2)...very fast video cards many times faster than the latter. hell, our pc's now could probally pull this off now if we had all hardware dedicated to running a game w/out OS stuff in the background, etc.

heres the whole quote from the site...
MADDEN NFL NEXT-GEN COMMERCIAL
DEBUTS ON ESPN -- ONE TIME ONLY!

Draft Coverage Begins at 12pm ET / 9am PT

Along with finally providing an answer to the question of which player will be picked first in the 2005 NFL Draft, the first hour of ESPN's Draft coverage on Saturday, April 23, will also give the world its first look at the next generation of videogames -- Madden NFL football will make its next generation debut in a TV ad airing within the first hour of the broadcast, which begins at 12:00pm ET / 9am PT.

The ad, which will run only one time during the broadcast, is a 60-second preview of the photo-realistic graphics and heart-pounding football intensity that is the essence of Madden NFL football -- an experience that will come to life like never before on the next generation of video game consoles. This is the future of Madden NFL football, and if you're a football fan, this is a televised preview that is not to be missed. Set your VCRs or digital video recorders so you can play back the commercial again and again, because you may not believe what you're going to see.

The next generation of Madden NFL football is coming, and you can get your first glimpse on ESPN during the first hour of the 2005 NFL Draft. Don't miss it! ill definately be recordin this via tivo :D

60-second preview of the photo-realistic graphics

awww man! they had to use old "photo-realistic" buzz phrase. thats one of those things that just drives me crazy. couldnt they just say the "the best looking gfx to date" or something else. i mean it looks amazing! but it is not photo realistic. sheesh.

when it looks like this then i hope they do say "photo-realistic" but untill then PLEASE STOP SAYING EVERY NEW CONSOLE OR GRAPHICS CARD RENDERS PHOTOREALISM! AHHHH!

ok im sorry i just had to get that off my chest.

those two above pics dont even look photo realistic...(not the actual photos, im talking bout' the two madden screenies) look at their arms, plain arse textures...don't get me wrong, looks incredible, but it does have some flaws.

yeah i guess its really not that big of a deal but...ok yes it is. i cant handle it!

but i must say those screenies do look good. i was scrolling up and down after i posted looking at the photos and the screenies and they are very impressive.

What version will that be...like 2007 or 2008? The 2006 screenshots don't look anything close to that.

The only released 2006 shots have been for the current consoles, these shots are for the next gen consoles (most likely Xbox 360 since its rumored to be released this year, unless Sony has plans for the PS3 this year aswell).

The ones from Gamer's Hell that were uploaded today say PC as the platform but the shots are all 640x418 or some weird res. So, like you said, they are probably from the current consoles. Oh well...

thats a bummer. i would have preferred lower poly players if they could have squeezed out a few sideliners from it. boy that will be the day. when the crowds are all poly people. ps4 maybe?

yea imagine that... everyone is a fully rendered character. That would be so awesome

My goodness can developers at least implement DOF more correctly? It seems like in every game that uses DOF they blur everything but the subject, including other objects that are parallel to the plane in focus.

That would be a waste of system resources... why render something that isn't taking focus. I would understand if they would render them during flyby or upclose shots but in the distance I so no real reason.

You probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Or maybe its for PS3... Sony is honestly being too secretive on it. I mean here is MS announcing so much and gaining so much hype while Sony is just sitting back patiently. They have something up thier sleeves, or are panicing... but something is up. Sony was never one to sit by idling and this is just freaky.

maybe sony just realized that nvidia just sent them a bunch of old modified geforce 3 chips that they had left over from thier deal with microsoft. wouldnt that be funny...you open up the case of your new ps3 only to find it actually just has an xbox sitting inside it. :D

hey look my 200th post.

I dunno, when playing sport games such as bball.. the crowd just looks so... lame. I dunno, I thought we had done away with 2d sprites years ago :) I guess its not a big deal, but it would be cool

The funny thing is, this sort of thing probably could have been done for the PC at least starting with Madden 2005, but EA only really focuses on the console market and gives the PC market lame ports.

holy **** that loooks good...
but, ......its almost like they are trying to replace textures with high poly counts. why not give us both.

Because EA sucks at Texture work... look at the MOH series.

They might be limited on texture memory.... what are the next gens supposed to have as far as texture memory?
