oblivion has just been pwned.

That will depend on the release date of Oblivion vs Gothic 3 ... seeing some good graphics is one thing & getting to play the actual game is another ;)

I agree... it looks fantastic, but Gothic had terrible controls and was really buggy, at least in the demo. I always wanted to get into it, but I just didnt like having to fight with the crappy controls and the crashing in the demo... so I never bought the full game or the sequel.

Me too. i never got into Gothic "2" for several reasons including the crappy controls & the dated graphics when i get to play it .
i hope this one change my idea about Gothic .. although i dont like playing a game without having a good background on its eariler games history.

Same with me... thats the main reason I never tried Gothic 2. Id always go back and retry the Gothic demo because I figured without the back story, the game wouldnt be very good. Playing that demo always soured my tastes for the series though...

I actually bought both the original and the sequel and never finished either... the controls just get me so annoyed that I just quit.

Ever since I heard that Gothic 3 is coming it has been THE number one game on my most wanted games list. No other game even comes close to it on the list.

By the way, I edited the scans so that only the screenshots are showing:

Also increased the contrast a little :)

The controls were very innovative and worked well with the game. It tooks a little time to get used to, but once I did I loved the controls and made the game really fun.

Also, Gothic 2 came with 2 control schemes. The old Gothic 1 controls and the new Gothic 2 controls. The new controls were created because so many people didn't like the Gothic 1 controls. In the controls setup it says that Gothic 1 controls are for the more advanced users. There is a Gothic 2 demo out now, go give that a try and see how the new controls work for you. Click Here for the Demo (http://www.3dgamers.com/dlselect/games/gothic2/gothic2-demo-setup.exe.html)

I couldn't get into new Gothic 2 controls, Gothic 1 controls were more fun to play with. The Gothic 2 controls seemed to streamlined, and to simple for my tastes.

Those seem like the most advanced looking dinosaur creatures in a game. Can you imagine fighting them? The realistic wood shingle roofs also drive me wild. I just want to go live in that house & have a few cold ones with the locals.

I would have been satisfied with much less visual splendour. I just want to play more Gothic. More MORE!! :D

But those scans just look amazing :afro2:

yea, I would have been perfectly happy with Gothic 3 using the same engine as Gothic1 and 2. The gameplay and the storlyine are spetacular and the old engine would have been suffecient. I don't think we'll see Gothic 3 till June of 2006 if the same thing happens to this as did Gothic 2. US version Gothic 2 was released 6 months after the German Version and 3 months after UK version.

I'm hoping they are creating the German and English versions at the same time, so we can have them at the same time.

Rumour is that there's again going to be a delay between German and English versions but the delay should NOT be as long as previously.

I thought so too. And for those of you worried about the controls -

In the latest issue of the German gaming magazine PCAction first breath-taking ingame impressions of Gothic 3 are presented. Of course you can also find a detailed preview and even a video showing the whole interview with Bj÷rn Pankratz there.
Information from the article:
-The mainland will be thrice the size of Gothic 2's
-The world is divided into different areas with special monsters fitting into them.
-20 towns (of which many are taken by the orcs)
-The hero will be able to pick revolts.
-More freedom and possibilities for the player (no chapters)
-6 different jobs like smith or gladiator
-There will be shields.
-More intuitional and better configurable controls
-There will be more than 3 guilds which are now called population groups.

Nice work with the scans SlamDunk :)

Gothic 3 article translation:

The old Khorinis seems really ridiculously small if you compare it with the world where the new adventures of the nameless hero will take place. The continent of Myrthana is three times bigger than the island of Khorinis. If one will have to walk or if one will be able to ride on animals wasn┤t betrayed by the developers yet. But it seems like you will be able to do so, if we trust in their facial expression. Stefan Kalverman showed us a map of the whole GIII-world. We ask him some question about the problems that you have by writing the story and try vainly to steal the map. But the world will be divided in different zones. There will be dangerous deserts, frozy icelands and big forests - with special monsters for each zone, that have their own daily routines. They will also look for food and hunt in packs. One will also be able to observe them.

At the request of the fans the developers also decided to assemble 20 (!!!) cities and villages. Many of them were conquered by orcs so the hero will be able to revolt against them with other humans. This will go on like this: The habitants of a town have some sort of superior AI. If the hero beats a specific number of orcs, the enslaved habitants will pluck up courage and follow the hero to fight for their freedom. Actions like these will improve the hero┤s esteem and help the hero to convince strong NPC┤s to fight at the hero┤s side. The esteem will be very important. Some races will benefit from an action and others will be annoyed. So you┤ll always have to be careful what you┤re doing!

GIII will be give the player more opportunities than the first two parts. There won┤t be chapters any more but you won┤t loose the plot. There also will be different strands perhaps even different ends depending on what you have done in the game.

One won┤t be able to build a permanent party, just like in the predecessors, but will meet old friends like Diego. "Old friends like these will have their own story and potentially one can take every habitant of the world into the party or trade with him. But the PB┤s will limit this to concentrate on the "cool" characters. These "recruts" will follow you as far as you reach a special point. There will be six races and other than in the predecessors the player will have to choose his guild later. Furthermore there will be six jobs, that one will be able to work at, like the blacksmith ot even a gladiator! Here the player will have the possibility to take part in fights with special rules. "You┤ll start fighting in a tiny, little stone circle and afterwards you┤ll have to beat your enemies in big arena," says the game designer.

He┤s also telling about shields and new weapons and wands, that you will be able to equip at the same time. The whole interface will be more intuitional and there will be more possibilities to configure it. The same with the graphics options: Everybody will have enough possibilities to exhaust his/her system. We also were able to see some scenes from the game.

Everything was still at the development stage but we were really enthused. The whole world is hand-modelled and not built with a construction set. The forest for example looks like a real-world-forest.

There┤s no stone that is looking exactly like another one, there are a lot of individual places that are coming across really solid. The monsters and NPC┤s are looking fantastic (as you can see at the screenshots). The technics like Normal Mapping and the Ragdoll System are used on a grand scale. But GIII won┤t have a multiplayer mode. While our hero was having a lot of adventures, there was fought a big war at the continent between the orcs and the humans. In GIII one will be able to enter the big continent for the first time. But now the orcs have conquered it and are in the driver┤s seat. They conquer entire cities, enslave the humanity and are not any more the birdbrained monsters, but an own race with its own culture and own goals. But it┤s still worse: The magic has disappeared from the Gothic-world.

Therewith the developers want to prevent that the player already begins the game as the unbeatable supercharacter from the predecessor. But the hero (as already confirmed) won┤t be as weak as in the beginning of GI or GII. Hey... this guy killed dragons and packs of orcs yet... he┤ll already have some basic-abilities and is getting better in the game. Of course one will find the magic again in the course of the game. But the summoning of really strong creatures like demons only will be possible at special locations.

Here's some answers from one of the developers about the scans and the article:

http://gothic.gamaxx.de/en/index.php?page=../news/index.php&id=84

Six races - will there also be dwarves and elves?
No, of course there won't be any. The six races are the six population groups inhabiting the different areas of Myrtana (Nordmar, Varant,...)

How can 20 towns fit into a world which is "only" three times bigger than Gothic 2's?
The 20 towns also contain smaller towns and villages.

The monsters shown on the screenshots look so different.
Yes, using the new technology, many creatures were redesigned. Especially the orcs play a different role and are much more intelligent in Gothic 3, e.g. they have an own culture.

Gothic 3 or Jurassic Park?
The editors of PC Action have picked out only a few of the screenshots we gave them to print them in their magazine, so they can't actually represent the whole game. Of course Gothic 3 won't be a dinosaur game.

Will Gothic 3 be a run-of-the-mill game?
You're unbelievable. :) You only have three pages of information about the game and yet you already fear to get an ordinary game. Just trust us that we will keep our style. :)

...and there's also going to be a 6 page preview on a German magazine that is coming out in April 27!! Can't wait to see the scans :D

Can't believe this is a German game :P We will soon dominate the international market (after we destroyed EA). These screenshots look absolutely fantastic.

It developers like PB that have been making the quality games for the PC, and most of them seem to be in Europe. Developers who have been around for awhile are moving to consoles and we get the ports, and these developers seem to be here in the US. So thank you Europe.
