I had a bit of a break from PC gaming after HL2, but have now gotten back into it with out updating my drivers... I'm using the 66.93s which were, imo, the best at the time... Are these still up to scratch or any there any other better ones, official or otherwise?

What is this Xtreme HD driver thingy I read about?

Also, on a side note, was there ever a solid solution to the random 10 second freezing with the 6800 series? I had to turn my Fastwrites off with RivaTuner to get rid of them, should I leave it as is (Does having Fastwrites on equte to a performance boost?) or use another method?

I am using the 66.93 drivers. They seem to run very good in my system. I would say that those are probably one of the best official drivers out there.

If you are not having any problems stick to the 66.93 drivers since they seem very stable. If not there are many thread that discuss official and beta drivers. You can decide for yourself if they are worth upgrading.

Xtreme drivers.. there are many modded drivers out there. Try at your own risk.

The fast write issue is a well known issue. Don't worry about it, the performance loss is probably less than 5%. I can't use Fast write either.

If I were you I'd try either the official 71.89s or XG HD version. Seems they are the most stable set released in ages with the best IQ.

If you run a 6800 series card, and you run AA&AF, the 70xxx series has a very noticable improvement in image quality. I've been running GTR (DX 8.0 racing game). The image quality improvment was very evident when I switched drivers.

Forget the benchmarks, and look at what your missing by sticking with the 66xx series drivers.

lol. 66.93 were the worst drivers for my 6800GT ever :thumbdwn:

I'm happy with 76.44 now :D

IMO, you can't do wrong with the XG 71.89 driver!

Tried the 71.89s... Got a random freeze on SWAT 4 with FW off, put FW on, no more freezing but choppy in places...Hmmm

Didn't notice an IQ difference...

Gonna revert back to 66.93...

If it aint broke, don't fix it!

66.93 = <3

I think the 67.66 is a better driver. I'm using the 67.66 VXG driver right now and it runs all of my games very well.

I still use the 66.93s with my 6800 BFG Ultra OC. Nice drivers.

That's right. Use what works best for you. Many times that will depend on the games you run or on your system.

I was about to installed the 71.89 drivers and changed my mind after I saw some of the problems posted on the official thread. I had tried the previous official drivers and ended up with some problems so I decided to install back the 66.93.

Also image quality is very subjective and not everyone will agree with the so call "improvements" in IQ.

If they're still working for you, then yes, they're still good to use.

The 66.93s didn't work so well for me, but results seem to vary from person to person it seems. I'm still on the 67.66s, but looking into trying the newer 7x.xx series.

The problem with the 66.93 drivers for me is that it doesn't have the "Negative LOD clamp" feature (which usually eliminates shimmering), so I prefer anything released after this set (like 67.03 or 71.89).
