I just got back from the Pacers game. The tributes to Reggie Miller throughout the game (from people like Jordan, Barkley, Johnson, etc...) was awesome and the ceremony afterwards was very moving. I hope that more players model their game (on and off the court) after men like him.

Thanks Reggie.

The game sure isn't gonna be the same without him. In my mind, he was the best clutch player to ever play on the court and had tremendous skills at shooting threes, in addition to having one of the cleanest shooting forms in the league. It's so cool how he grew up in the town in which I currently attend college at, we'll miss you Reggie! :clap2:

WHOAH! the best clutch player ever? To quote John Wayne "I think not". Reggie was a very good player but not among the best ever.

Who was a better clutch player UDawg? Who had more game winning shots, shots to send games into overtime? Allen Iverson just recently got his first game winning shot this year. They're nothing new or uncommon for Reggie.

Here's a good articel on Reggie:

And his PW stats are in the top 10...above even Bird:

Jordan :)
It would be hard to argue that. :) I wish they kept game winning shot statistics...that would answer it.

I would still vote Reggie Miller as the winner between the two. Though Jordan is the best all around player to ever walk on the court, reggie still has his place in the hall of fame :)

Jordan :)
Jordan ever score 8 points in 8 seconds?

It is a tough comparison, but Reggie was nails when it came to the last ditch must have three...

Bird, Jordan, Erving Johnson to name a few. Don't get me wrong Reggie was a damn good player but you look at how the ones I mentioned won championships and took over games in the clutch, wither it be by creating plays by Magic or just hitting a shot by Bird. I would say they are far above Reggie. I would also put Vinnie Johnson in there. The Microwave for the Pistons was deadly in the clutch.

I know you are biased towards Reggie and that is a good thing but I gotta stick with the guys I named.

I will say That game against NY where he hit those J's in a row was out of this world.

It would be hard to argue that. I wish they kept game winning shot statistics...that would answer it.
Maybe we just look at clutch differently. I don't think of it just as hitting a game winning shot. I look at is as the guy who consistantly steps up late in the fourth quater that pulls the team up and leads them to a win. The ones I mentioned fit what I said well. I would even throw in Bernard King who was amazing but his career was cut short by knee injuries.

If you want to say who has the most winning shots then I bet by that stat Reggie would prolly be tops or at least 2nd.

I hope I made my self more clear.

Yeah by clutch (informal adjective at the bottom of the definition (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=clutch)) I'm referring to the (very rare by the way) player that wants to take that last second shot that the game hinges on. It's up for debate but I've watched Jordan, Bird, Reggie and others of that era play and Reggie seems to me to have made more of those kinds of shots. Yep, I'm biased but I do really think if the stats were available they would show Reggie on top...or at least very close to one of those other players. No doubt about the fact that some of those other players were better all around than Reggie. But man, Reggie was/is the kind of guy with icewater in his veins, never afraid to be the goat if he misses.

EDIT: Heh your last update to the post above is exactly what I was getting at only you said it more concisely than I did. :D

You can even throw in Big Game James Worthy. He didn't just light it up at the end of a play-off game. He had big games every night in the play-offs, especialy when the game is on the line.

Either way I love going down basketball memory lane.

BTW, my buddy has a poster of Michael Jordan, James worth, Eric Floyd and Sam Perkins all running down the court at North Carolina. He got it when we were at a summer basketball camp. I so wish I had it.
