As you can see from my sig I currently have a socket 754 CPU and motherboard. I was wondering if I should upgrade to the 3700+ or pay a bit more and go for a socket 939 and new CPU. It must have an AGP port so this out rules NF4 boards.

What do you guys think?

Since you don't have PCI-e, I would say a 3700+ would actually be worth it. They have a good price/performance ratio right now and are still fairly high end. If you feel you need more performance I would agree that it should help out somewhat. An extra 400MHz and 512KB of L2 cahce is a fairly decent upgrade.

I also have 754 . I have the 3700 Claw it's a good cpu ,i was messing around with it and had it oc to 2.68 and it booted up fine but I didn't push the voltage past 1.6 and heat became an issue also. I run it stock 24/7 but it can oc. Personally i would wait and see what dualcore cpu boards come out or if you don't want to go that route wait and see if the dual core pulls the 939 cpus down in price. Although like myself with the 754 that nice ram isn't getting used to it'ds full potential.

PPl talk all about winnies and venice and ocing but i think the 3700+ is no bad OCer at all. The 3700+ itself would be a nice upgrade allready but if you can squeeze out 200mhz more it will be well worth it for sure.
