View Full Version : Tool to modify available screen resolutions?

I'm wondering if there is a utility that will modify the available screen resolution list.

Im currently using 76.41 and I have heaps of stupid modes listed I'll never, ever use (such as 960x600, 1088x612, 1280x720, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1360x768, 1600x900, 1792x1344).

I only require 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x960, 1600x1200.

I have removed the modes using refreshforce, but they still show up in display properties and game resolution lists.

Note to driver modders - you may want to incude 2 inf's with your drivers - one for CRT users who want standard resolutions and one for LCD owners and TV out people so people you don't want the resolution clutter don't get it.

Why not? Who needs things installed they won't use? I'd love to get rid of nView and scanDoubling to as well as the popup blocker (probably what caused some peoples IE to play up in some beta drivers). They are just download size increasing bloat so far as I am concerned.

As an example, I recently reinstalled Hexen2 on my system. I am limited in the resolutions I can set for the game because it like a few other old games builds a list of available resolutions, but does so in a limited space, so I can't set the resolution I want because the game can't see the resolution I want for all the weird-arse crappo resolutions. No, forcing with -width -height doesn't work if the game doesn't "know" the resolution is there.

Replace HKR,, NV_Modes, %REG_MULTI_SZ%, "{*}S 320x200 320x240 400x300 480x360 512x384 640x400=1FFF;SHV 640x480 720x480 768x576 800x600 1024x768 1152x864 1280x720 1280x768 1280x800 1280x854 1280x960 1280x1024 1360x768 1366x768 1400x1050 1440x900 1600x900 1600x1000 1600x1024 1600x1200 1680x1050 1920x1200 1920x1440 2048x1536x8,16,32=1FFF"withHKR,, NV_Modes, %REG_MULTI_SZ%, "{*}S 320x200 320x240 400x300 480x360 512x384 640x400=1FFF;SHV 640x480 800x600 1024x768 1152x864 1280x960 1600x1200x8,16,32=1FFF"
and remove this line to stop nview from loading.HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer sion\Run,"nwiz",,"nwiz.exe /install"

Now you are laughing, the above is easily accomplished with my INFs, with original nvidia or OEM INFs it is a little more complicated.

Now good luck if you want to attach a projector or LCD display or anything else to the back of the video card as it won't work unless they can handle the above resolutions.
The whole reason why I add them all in the first place, do I make an INF for just CRT users, just Projector users, LCD users, Plasma screen users ?
Or just make 1 INF for all ?

Thanks for the reply.

I'd hope that choice of output abilities would be just like GFX card selection in the Extreme G drivers - you choose from GF6, GF FX or reborn (GF4 and lower).

For nView a checkbox would do the trick.

If I want to attach LCD's or Projectors I'll change drivers to something that supports them at that time.
