A few weeks ago when I first read this review from Sub Sim, I was a little sceptical, since it might have been quite biased. Thankfully though, less targeted sites have also enjoyed it.

I haven't had the chance to play it myself.

I've lost quite a few hours of sleep from playing it. I can't say it's a 10 outta 10 game, but it's well up there.

ANy reason the developers have done something as shortsighted as that?

For performance reasons. Most PCs won't be able to handle time compression at a high resolution since the CPU cannot keep up.

THats really odd.. it should be at least allowed the enthusiast gamers to manually change the resolutions in the ini..of the game. if they still want that. I have no problems with very slow framerates when using time compression in other games.. since you use the option mostly when you are doing nothing in the game.. like building something or traveling to other places. NM.. it looks that there is a dll hack to workaround this and allow higher res. :)

I dont think the CPU is effected by changes in resolution... unless the game runs in software mode?

Nice you guys talked me into it. I just ordered a copy from gamestop for $30. :)

Now about that .dll to enable the higher resolutions..

I have been playing this game over the last few weeks and it is a lot of fun. Still a few minor bugs and lacking features, but nothing show stopping. It can take a couple of hours to play a single patrol, but the game may be saved at any time. I'd recommend this game.

i saw in rage3d a thread about the workaround.
you need the gamecopyworld nodvd patch ,and a DLL to overrride resolution limits in Dx9 games ,and manually change the resolutions . the bad news is that the only noDVD patch is for the retail v1.0 version of the game.and there are already official patches for the game with MOds. so you will need an updated gamecopy world hack if you want to run te game with the latest official updates. i will get a copy of the game tomorrow , so will try it later. :)

found the DLL file ,is atached at the end..use at your own risk.. read the readme for more info.

found some Awesome trailers of the game..

see the one of the weather effects ...:retard:
Wow! i just can't wait to get my copy tomorrow. :D

Ok.. after playing the game for a couple of days i can finally say this game Rocks!! :)

I really think simmers or people new to this style of games should give it a try.. because the game is really fun to play. :)

now the good news.. :)

People found a way to break the 1024x768 barrier.. and use the power of their video card to its limits.. ;)
THe game have a fixed resolution not because of the performance.. but because the intruments numbers inside the SUb are more dificult to read *(than what already are*) if you go to resolutions higher than the standar in the game. in fact this is a lame excuse because all they needed to do was to ask their artist to increase the size of the fonts a bit more ,and maybe redraw again the most important controls in the game.there is already MOds just to make more readable the fonts in the controls of the game. the game have the nice feature to allow you to visually operate with your mouse everything inside the SUB.this feature is called a realtime interface.THis is just like FAlcon 4.0 , this however is more work for the artist since they need to create a new interface for each new resolutions supported in the game. which inmho is should be always done that way..and have been done by many other developers in their games. people dont buy ..$500 Gpus for nothing.. ,and the game looks sooo beautifull and its playable most of the time at 1600x1200 8xs/16AF in my machine  However whenever big explotions happens the game lags there. but just for a short time . the GRaphics are so nice that is well worth the sacrifice. :D

All you need to use whaterver resolution you want.. is to use
the utility dx9res10.zip already atached in my last post. modify its config to the resolution you want.. and place the DLL's and the .cfg inside the main folder of the game.the nice thing is that you can change the resolution in side of the game by switching to your desktop and editing the special config you downloaded for the game.however this only works with the V1.0 of the game. with the 1.2 patch... you will need download/install a MIcrosoft compatibility utility a follow the intructions in the end of this thread..

Ok.. here is a shot.. at 1600x1200 8xsAA/16xAF :)

The most powerfull battleship in the entire WWII

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=11445&stc=1

THe Bismarck is very famous because it sank the BEst Battlecruiser of the most powerfull navy in the world at that time. After few minutes that the fight began .THe BIsmark sank the latest battlecruiser of the Royal navy the @MHS HOOD with just one shot of its powerfull cannons that penetrated all the way to it stored munitions. the ship was split in half ,after the shot ,and from 1400 sailors only 3 survived . and that was because the HOOD sank so quick ,in just a few seconds after receiving the deadly shot. Never something like this was witnessed by Anyone on any side.after the event.the @Prince of whales another Britain battle ship that was the escort of the Hood could only managed to escape the german fire ,but not without some damage. the German ships received also damage ,but they were very minor .AFter these the Britain send its entire NAvy fleet to hunt the bismarck , which this one succesfully survived a wave of many aircraft and battleships atacks that happened later . It was not until a lucky torpedo dropped by an aircraft in a second wave destroyed the most weakest part of any ship ..it Rudders , making it impossible to navigate him ,than they could not stop the Bismarck from escaping the outnumbered wave of atacks. because torpedos could not do significant damage to the ship Hull ,it was extremely thick and double protected the hull of the ship. it took the firepower of many battleships and many more aircraft torpedos ,in an hour of non stop fire , againts a quiet and still target ..to finally sank the pride of the Germans navy.was is remarkable It that even when the remaining crew abandoned the ship ,when they ran out of ammo ,and the ship could not be controlled anymore.it took a combined offense of more than 2thousands shells and 77 torpedos to sink he ship. The Bismarck refused to die even after a hours of being hit by a group of destroyers. This only added credibility to the stories of a German war ship being invincible.MAny military experts believe the ship fate will be far diferent ,and continue being the most feared german weapon in the ATlantic Ocean for months or years ,if it werent for the lucky torpedo that broken any possibility for a strategic navigation of the battleship . Because THe ship was designed to sustain heavy atacks after all and there was no doubts of its firing power .DOnt miss WW2 documentaries in the Discovery channel.. :D

at the end ,included some more pics of in game action.

I wonder why there are no sims dedicated to this battleship alone.. it would be fun to recreate some of those awesome battles.. :) however while some of the historical battles can be recreated ,the game only allows you to controls the Subs . the battleships are handled by the AI. it will be awesome a FUll scale NAvy WWII game where you could control any ship from any country that were used in the war. :)

According to the developer resolution does affect performance when using time compression Read for yourself here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=857101043&m=2341042492

Quote:

Concerning the resolution that is limited to 1024x768:

The resolution issue is a technical one... We already have drops in frame rate at high time compressions (remember that at any time the game calculate the lone ships and convoys in the whole world)... a higher resolution at the graphic present in game and the lots and lots of calculations means to kill even high end machines. You could improve the aspect of the game using a glare feature (a software antialiasing - use Shift + Page Up/Page Down to increase/ decrease the software antialiasing)

If you guys really want to inmerse in the game... and feel like you are really there.. play the game at 100% realism settings.. or at least at 80-90%. :)

I have found that the game experience its more awesome if you play the game with more advanced realism settings.
Try it. DIsable external camera ,realistic damage ,and sensors .. no gods eye in the navigation map.. and perhaps if you are really good with sims ..->(manual tageting) where you no only need to manually compute the target range, speed and bearing ,but also the torpedo speed and detonation method and you will have a better idea of how dificult it was to destroy a ship those days... more when Destroyers were very effective late in the war hunting Subs..thanks to its more advanced radar equipment.

Manual targeting however makes the game really dificult ,and bit fustrating if you dont know how to do it correctly. it doesnt hurt too much if you still enable the Event camera to have atleast a visual feedback of your torpedos.it looks very cool.

NV40, the Bismarck and Tirpitz were great pocket battleships. But the Yamato and the Mushashi would've crapped all over them before they were even in range for a shot. ;)

Most likely at long range the twins will have a better chance.. because of their bigger cannons.. but unfortunately this was not good enough for them to last a round with the amercian third fleet in the pacific .SOme of their best ships of the japan navy were sank by the american navy in the first day they participated in the war. perhaps was the lack of experience but we have no records of a significant success of their navy. well atleast not with battleships.. :) Even thought their ships were the biggest of all. THe Germans in the other hand were unstopable in the first years of the war ,they were very close to stop the comunication between the east with the west. thanks to their modern navy .thats why a game dedicated for this alone .an contrary to japan ,their battleships have records of sucess . So the saying.. what is most importat is not the size but how you use it.. my explain better this. :D

Most likely at long range the twins will have a better chance..No contest. 18" guns vs. 15" guns. I'd bet my life the two Yamato class would've won that engagement barring some unbelievable luck or bad decisions on someone's part.
but unfortunately this was not good enough for them to last a round with the amercian third fleet in the pacific .SOme of their best ships of the japan navy were sank by the american navy in the first day they participated in the war. perhaps was the lack of experienceThe Yamato was lost at Leyte Gulf and it had everything to do with air superiority. We had it, they didn't, and it (Yamato) was basically on a suicide mission.
