You've probably figured this out already, but just in case... it's best to get rid of the Dolyak Masters first, they're the healers. They're pretty squishy though and go down relatively easily. Also, unless you're a meatshield, try as much as possible to stay far away from them while they are about to do their Giant Stomp (you can usually see it coming).

I just found out about Elite Skills like 3 days ago. I got poison arrow and evade, and holy crap: they rock.

Especially poison arrow.

It just sucks you can only have one Elite on at a time. :(

I haven't had time to play all week, but I just logged in now, sold a few things, bought a couple of ruins and bolstered up my armor. That druid's armor is some pretty badass stuff.

I got a really sweet max-damage purple bow that lengthens poison duration on foes. I love that bow. :D

Can someone please explain to me exactly how armor in this game works, since there are no stats or explanation anywhere in-game that I can find?

EDIT: Nevermind,I found out how it works. It's exponential, starting with a base of 60 armor. At 60, an attack does 100 dmg. At 100 armor, it does 50 damage, at 140, it does 25 damage, etc, etc.

Well, I started up a Necromancer...she's about level 5.5 and she rocks! They are so much fun to play! And I've got a couple Mesmer skills because I was doing a quest for Athlea and I definitely am leaning towards a Necro/Mesmer combo instaed of a Necro/Monk which I was looking at before.

Any input from fellow Necros?

Well, I decided to go Mesmer since the few skills I have are so much fun. I keep forgetting that I have the bone minion spell and almost never use it. :( Ah well. This game ROCKS.

I just wish I had someone to partner up with to finish up the pre-searing stuff... *doesn't look in Paul's direction*

I was on...I just went ahead and skipped the "Crossing the Wall" quest and went right to the searing. Man...Necros are so damned COOL! I love my Necro/Mesmer intensely.

However, I bought the Bonelace armor, and it won't let me put runes on the vest/chestplate. I put them on the boots and leggings, but the gloves and vest are off limits for some reason. And it won't let me put them on the starter tattoo either, but I wouldn't want to anyway. Once I get more money, I'm going to get the blood magic boosting tattoos or scars...whatever the hell they are.

Is it because i'm too low of a level to have any more runes on?

Hey y'all. Well I just started playing Guid Wars (finally) after buying it months ago. I am glad I delayed cause now I'm playing with my ex-gf who is pretty cool cause she's really into pc gaming. Two questions I have are...
1. Does this game support surround? Only seems to be coming out my front two speakers.
2. What would be a sufficient level to achieve before leaving the beginners area? I am level 5 right now and she is already 7.

Have not tried 4 speakers as I am using headphones. I am sure it does, guess you checked the in-game options?

Level 7 is good, 5 is OK. You will survive after being smashed a few times. :D

yeah, I'm pretty sure it's got 5.1 as well. And I was level 6.5 when I finally left. I got too board and the quests were too involved with not enough payout. Get to six, maybe a little past and then jet outta there. :D

sounds good. i'm ready to leave the area now. wasn't really paying all that much attention to the quests most of them seem kinda of meh. just trying to get a few decent items and my level/attributes decent.

i'm still not sure about the sound though. i didn't see any options for the sound besides the 3 volume levels.

Hmm...I dunno about the sound. Maybe it is just stereo and the X-Fi Stereo Surround CMSS-3D mode is pumping it through all my channels? I dunno. I can turn that off later tonight and fire it up to see...

I can hear surround sound form all the speakers and its quite directional.so i guess yes it has working surround sound(7.1 for me).

I've seen people reaching level 20 in pre-searing! its hard to say wich level you should leave pre,imo it all depends on how much you consider your passage from charr missions to be a quick and easy one.The higher level you are when leaving pre the easier the charr part and perhaps the following part will be until mobs get even with you and can beat you up pretty hard. :D

Wait...where and how do you get to 20 in pre-searing? I thought the highest level monsters were some 6 or 8s in the "over the wall" mission...and by level 12, you get nothing for level 6 monsters and like 8XP for level 8 monsters...and since you can't attack NPCs...
