well, i just thought about it, and it looks like there will be no g70 agp. this means that the r520 agp will pwn teh agp market.
Y wil there be no agp version? well, if the rumors about power are true, that would mean the agp version would need about 5 molexes. 5!!!!
i guess im going to have to get a new mobo after all.

and source on r520 being agp?
WTF ?? ranting about unannounced product & building theories you dont even have source for ??

Lol. You thought about it eh? Well I just thought about it too and it looks like they are only going to make a PCI version of the G70 and it's going to have quad cores with 1 Gb of GDDR4.
Oh, and "why" is not spelled "y".
Y do u always say "xxx" is not spelled "xxx"!!!

Uh, what are you talking about? This is actually the first time I have ever corrected someone's laziness when spelling simple words. I can handle things like lol, lmao, wtf, and other such abbreviations, but shortening why to y is pointless. Does it really take that much to type 3 letters?

I believe its "Err" and not "Uh" ;)

Nvidia didnt develop there bridge chip to just toss it.

im not sure if many in the market for a g70 will want agp support anyway
im not sure if many in the market for a g70 will want agp support anyway
Agreed. Why using AGP when PCI-E only has advantages? And those who are able to afford such card, won't care about AGP or PCI-E, they buy what they need...

Well, personally, I won't spend triple the money a new card costs to build a new system. I won't throw my A64 system down the toilet for a video card. If there are more AGP cards to come, all is good. If not, I'll go as far as my X800XT-PE takes me.

lol, I see you guys have your heads stuck up the high-end as usual! How many GF6x00 cards have been sold, and what fraction of them are 6800 variants? Where do the GPU guys make their money (high-end, or low-end)?
Of course there will be AGP variants of G70, and I think it's a reasonable bet there'll be AGP variants of G80. You lot may well be prepared to rebuild your computer to fit in your $700 graphics card, the vast bulk of normal people out there (MILLIONs of them) don't want to rebuild their computers to fit their $100 graphics cards. They want the cards to fit in their old computers.
PCI stuck around for years after AGP (hell, you can still get PCI cards *now*). The typical replacement half-life for PCs is three years or so, not three weeks.

yes good point,
i was thinking that the g70 was high end so my mistake on that one.

Sigh...
When will people stop comparing apples to oranges?
AGP- Video only
PCI- Everything
PCI video cards stuck around, because tons of average users saw no reason to upgrade their mobos to AGP, when it was only designed for ONE type of card. Once built in video came along, a bunch of those mobos also didn't have AGP. Once PCI reached it's full potential, there were no more cards that came out for it. Know of any FX5900 for PCI? Only the SUPER low end FX cards came out PCI. Perfectly possible for the same thing to happen here. The high end will be PCI Express, and maybe a low end will come out AGP
My personal belief is that there will be a AGP version of the next gen comming out from both Nvidia and ATI. I have no proof to back it up, I just think AGP 8x never reached it's full potential with the cards currently out

g70 more than likely is highend. g75 or some variant will be low end.

You need a comma after "too" because you are separating independent clauses.

an r520 agp was confirmed on ati's roadmap.
and there are rumors that the g70 will run on 2 pci express power connectors, and power from the pci express bus. For an agp card to have acess to that amount of power it would need about 5 molex connectors.

We're just saying we doubt nV is going to abandon agp so quickly. Many believe agp 8x isn't maxed out yet so it leaves room for improvement. I don't know about the power requirements but it seems that that may be talking about products beyond next-gen. It may be talking about power available to future chipsets not sure though because its rumor.

I was realy waiting for G70 , but that power hungry monster got me worried. What kind of PSU we gonna need not to mention SLI with two of those would be crazy PCP&C 850W ? thats like 400$ PSU

WE HEARD THAT Nvidia asked PCI-Sig, the PCI and PCIe standardisation body, to provide some more juice for Nvidia's next generation cards. It turns out that 75W from external connector and 75W from motherboard is not enough. Nvidia wants an additional 75W for its G70 card.
This is something that was whispered at the WinHEC conference held this week in Seattle. When we dug a little bit more it turns out that there is such a proposal at PCI-Sig website. You can see it here and download it if you have a user name and password.
We also heard that Nvidia asked PCI-Sig to let it use two power connectors for the card, each providing 75W of power. If the Sig agrees, it seems that Nvidia next generation card might end up drying 225W of power. It's simple maths, 75 W from PCIe motherboard connector, and two times 75 from a six pin power connector.
It turns out that G70 might be one very power hungry card after all. Knowing Nvidia's troubles with its early jump to 130 nm I would suggest that this chip won't be 90 nm like ATI's R520 "Fudo". It has to be either 110 or 130, we suggest, as we don’t see Nvidia risking its NV30 failure one more time.
Whatever happens, this card is an autumn marchitecture and even if Nvidia announces it before then, I don’t think you will be able to get one until then. µ

Now that is a lot of power.

in a way i hope they are only PCI-e. then i'll finally have to go with a Nforce4 mobo :o

Never forget how much everyone thought the 6800 would need, and eventually people realized that it didn't require that 500W power supply, it sometimes required only 300W or 400W
Nvidia will always lean on the safe side and assume that you need a lot of power
