This patch works as advertised (at least on GF6 & GF-FX 5900XT.
A very nice piece of work. Managed to do what lard-arse Gabe and his "shady" programmers couldn't/wouldn't.
Interesting...this should be in the Source Engine forum though. I'll give it a try when I see some more feedback on it, and when I have some free time to try it out. Very interesting that it would add parallax mapping to the game...I take it it converts bump maps into parallax maps? Shame that VAC2 will probably classify this as a cheat and ban you from secured servers, though...
Oh, almost forgot!

I debated where to start the thread, actually, but decided this was great news for GF-FX users, so chose to post it in here.
I guess if the moderators don't like its location they will shift it.
Well, is this worth installing? Is there any performance improvment...

Yes, it definitely improves performance even on a GeForce6. Smooths things out quite nicely IMO.
IQ wise I must admit I don't see much (if any difference) between the patch and the original, but, I barely play HL2 anyhow (I think its boring) and you may need to somehow activate the HDR rendering and parallax mapping in the console.

I installed this on counter-strike source and HL2 and saw great FPS improvements. I didn't notice any graphical differences in either HL2 or css, (with the exception of those little white lines being gone), but the speed improved and I wasn't playing levels with a lot of lighting so I probably didn't see the HDR.

It isn't at all difficult to install - you run the exe and point the installation program to your half-life2 bin folder.
on my system, that folder is
E:\Games\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2\bin
will HDR work in gf6 cards using this patch?

Has anyone checked this patch for trojans and spyware?

Yes, it has been scanned with Norton Antivirus (which is trojan and spyware aware) and trojanhunter.
It is not a password/account stealer.

I don't play counterstrike or have it installed.
With the help of certain utilities you don't have to activate the copy of HalfLife2 you purchased on line either, so they can ban all they want for all I care.

Cool I will have to try it out before my copy of half life 2 is sold on ebay.
Do I download both, or just chose one of those links?

It won't magically make your FPS twice as high again. If that's what you think/expect you are in for a dissapointment.
What it does appear to do is substantially raise minimum frame rates and make the entire game feel a lot smoother than it used to.
This is on my XP2400+. I've only just upgraded to a3200+ and haven't gotten around to testing with it yet.
how do you know that after you install it, that the game is actually using it? EX. how do I know that when im in the game, that what I installed, is actually being used?

You should (hopefully) be able to feel an improvement in how the game plays.
This is a patch, not a mod, and although the author claims to impliment HDR/Parallax mapping, I can't really see the difference. I can however feel an improvement in the way the game handles itself on my system.
EDIT: if you are a geforce FX owner (5700 & above) the big tipoff that it's working is the fact you can now choose the DX9 renderer in the game.
