.. for cheating? apparently, Button's car, when fully drained of fuel, was 5 kg underweight. FIA wants them banned for the rest of the season and be fined a substantial amount of $$. at issue is a disputed "secret compartment" in the fuel tank that apparently held extra fuel, when the car was supposed to be drained completely. opps. BAR got caught. there's no way, really, that they can dispute the fact that their car weighed slightly less then the others in the field.
FIA disagreed with Pannick's assertion, writing in its dossier to the court, "In designing a fuel system calculated to deceive the scrutineers into thinking the car had been drained of fuel when in fact it had not, the team was guilty of fraudulent conduct."
Kris De Groot, a member of the Formula One technical team, said he asked BAR's chief mechanic Alistair Gibson for a "full draining" of the car. He said he then found more fuel, as well as a plastic tube, the function of which was not clear.
as much as i dislike BAR, i don't think FIA can afford to piss off a major team and have only 18 cars for the rest of the season. but, BAR should be forced to change their car, be stripped of all points gained this season, and fined the $1 mill euros, and perhaps even be given a race ban, since the Spainish GP is only days away.
we should find out BAR's fate on Thursday.
