View Full Version : Spanish Grand Prix
the Spanish Grand Prix!
Schumacher threw down the gauntlet at San Marino, Ferrari's home race, and was the fastest car on the track, yet finished second, thanks in part to a mistake he made in qualy, and of course because of a good race by the winner. now, it's up to Alonso and Renault to return the favour at the driver's home race in Barcelona. do they have a response to Ferrari? will Alonso crack under the pressure? will Fischella's car fail yet again (same can be said for Barrichelo)? Ferrari needs reliability from both it's cars, and has to hope that Schumie doesn't push too hard in qualy. San Marino was a great race, hopefully Spain will be equally as entertaining.
Kimi Raikonen: he was really pissed when his car failed last race; i wonder if his McLaren will be able to survive an entire race. it will be interesting to see the impact of JPM's return from his "tennis" injury, since McLaren, in third, has a chance to pass Toyota. speaking of Toyota, they need a better race in Spain, especially from Ralf Schumacher, who has been outscored by his team mate, Trulli. an underwhelming season from Williams got a boost thanks to the cheaters at BAR, and are now tied for 4th with Ferrari with 18 pts. and i am sooo looking forward to a continuation of the DC-Massa feud--i hope it contines in Spain, and that DC lays a smack down on Massa (even though i cheer for Sauber, because of JV, whatever happens to Massa that helps JV is fine by me :D). hopefully, JV can build on the last race, maybe even hope for another DSQ, since he benefitted from BAR's cheating ways, jumping from 6th to 4th. :)
the revised San Marino results, now that BAR have been exposed as cheaters: JV moves up into 4th position for Sauber, Wurz gets third, both Williams score (6th and 7th) and Liuzzi of RBR gets 1 point in 8th.

BAR is appalled. so am i. to quote Rod (or maybe Todd): "lies make baby Jesus cry": http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/formula_one/news_story.asp?ID=123921&hubName=auto_racing-formula_one
Well with Button out, he won't be able to slow up Schumi and perhaps a better battle will grow :D
Here's to hoping
de la Rosa was fastest on Friday, followed by a Toyota, a Williams (Heidfeld, who changed an engine and will be penalized 10 positions), and a second McLaren (Kimi, not JPM, who crashed in his comeback). Ferrari was all the way down in 11th (Rubens) with Schumi in 13th. Renault in 7th (Fisichella) and 9th (Alonso). still, this is only Friday practice results, and things may yet change for the Saturday qualifying session. DC was in 6th, whilst his fellow Red-Bullers were down near the bottom of the grid, where, oddly enough, we find the Jordans and Minardis. hey, if the FIA ever decided to turn their from upside down, they'd be on top. :(:)

the F2005 Ferrari is having even more problems, as Schumi says he is doubtful that they can continue the pace from last race. i don't know if he is engaged in a little subterfuge, or if the car really is struggling; i guess we'll just have to wait: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=32738
BAR is "crude" and "primitive" according to Mosley, slamming the team for it's cheating ways. they are lucky not to be kicked out entirely, but at least for 2 races we won't have to listen to the British announcers fawning all over the best driver in F1 (never to win a race): http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=32737

Alonso looks to have this one in the bag if he can keep ahead and pit well.
Alonso looks to have this one in the bag if he can keep ahead and pit well.Kimi is right there too, but we all know what happens to McLarens more often then not--it usually ends with a frustrated driver throwing a steering wheel. both Toyotas did well, with Trulli outpacing Ralf yet again. and the Williams' drivers in 5th and 6th outpaced the other Renault and both of the Ferraris. i doubt Schumacher will be able to find enough pace to make up for a disappointing day. Barrichello was penalizewd 10 spots for changing an engine, so it looks like the championship is quickly becoming out of reach for the team. is it time to start blaming the tires? they are the only "top" team still running on Bridgestone, and the race commentators have been saying how poor the tires are compared to the Michelins.

Scumacher is resigned to a low starting position: http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=32749
I have a feeling Ferrari will stick with the tires so long as they are making mucho money.
If Schumi can pull some points back, Ferrari should be in decent shape going into the middle of the season. If not, finger pointing might come out as you say.
Kimi on the poll for a second straight race, followed by Webber and Alonso in third, with Schumacher down in 8th. i wonder how long Kimi's car will last in this race, given his bad lucj recently. Alonso's fans were disappointed with his qualifying lap--hopefully, they'll be even more saddened by a poor race performance. Ralf, in 4th, out-qualified his team mate, and JPM, in his first race back, was in 7th. Heidfeld and Barrichello are at the back, having posted
no time in the second session.

Kimi wins, leading the race from start to finish, as Alonso gets second, disappointing all of Spain (it seems, although he did increase his lead in the championship and constructors) and Trulli in third, narrowlly beating his team mate, Ralf. Webber had an awful start but managed to get a 6th place finish. Fisichella in 5th, JPM in his return in 7th, whilst DC gets a single point in 8th for RBR. both Jordans finished. :)
yet another horrible day for Ferrari, as Schumie suffers two blown tires, and has to retire after the second one, and Barrichello ends out of the points in 9th. the Bridgestone's tires really failed Ferrari today, but bad tires also effected others, namely Massa, who pulled up near the end with flat Michelin tires. Sauber's drivers also suffered, as both failed to finish the race. the Minardis, stuck on the grid at the start because of a computer programming error, managed to get started, only to fail yet again for yet another DNF.

in two weeks, the slowest, trickiest, yet probably the scenic race of the season, the Monaco Grand Prix!
Kimi put the hurt on the field. Stunning performance from McLaren. Obviously, Bridgestone is back in the sh*thouse despite their performance last race. Two blo-outs in as many laps has got to have Spoonface dejcted.
Side note, I can't wait for the CBS races to be over. Speed's analysts aren't forced to talk down to the casual Sunday TV watcher liek daly and "Sheman" have to...

Side note, I can't wait for the CBS races to be over. Speed's analysts aren't forced to talk down to the casual Sunday TV watcher liek daly and "Sheman" have to...yah, i was wondering about that: how many races does CBS have the rights to? normally, i'd watch the race on TSN (the ITV feed), then flip to Speed on commercial breaks, but for the last few races that option is gone.

i hope bridgestone will put their act together for the next race...
it is really bad for ferrari being compromised so badly because of poor tyres ...

it is really bad for ferrari being compromised so badly because of poor tyres ...true, Ferrari's car is fast, but they are the only team of any significance still using Bridgestone, and are suffering because of it. however, there are 14 races left in the longest F1 season ever, so it is still possible for a Ferrari turn-around, even though it seems improbable.

I think Bridgestone have to burn some(not just some) midnight oil together with Ferrari and other teams.
Also, Raikonnen is definitely a very capable driver only limited my the reliability of the McLaren car. Else he would be able to catch up with Alonso even if Schumi doesn't manage.
