View Full Version : Azureus 2.3.0.0 woes...

Has anyone had problems with the recent release? I was running fine on 2.2.x...well since last summer. But it wanted to update and this lattest version...the java VM sucks up near 97% of the CPU much of the time...my computer becomes sluggish and almost unuseable (for watching anything for instance)... I decrease the priority on task manager for the jvm, and the computer is useable again, but Azureus is even worse on responce time.
Anyone else seen this? Is there anything to do (perhaps a newer java VM from Sun which might go with this version better) other then revert to old version? The trick would be getting the old version (if that's necessary) after the new one came out however...

OK, didn't think I'd have a problem as my install is less then a year old... Tried it (though I couldn't read the install options, as they came up in Japanese, the java installer).
Oops, here it goes again, with taking 4 seconds or so between a key press in the browser here, and something displaying. My CPU still being sucked up like there's no tomarrow...
Edit: Just tried a reboot though installer didn't ask for one, just in case, comp still seems sluggish :( This upgraded it for the browsers, one would expect it to for Windows as well (that's how I downloaded it from Sun the first time)...

I took the full offline install, and applied it, hmm...

Ok, if you read the azureus faq it said to
Uninstall Java
Download the version from Azurues website
Reinstall new version.
They have a torrent link of the proper verison (may be early or beta?)
Then it will work. alot of people compaling about the same thing, but with update it runs faster than before.

 I seldom read faqs anymore... I know, I know... They used to say the same thing about Winblows manuals, and then the real "manual" turned out to be the resource kit (circa Windows 95) and the "manual" became 80 pages of "pretty pictures" and a large advertisment for the products features... :D
In any case (and actually I let it auto-update at first), the file I did get from Sun was the same file that sourceforge and others recommend one have. The file name reads the same (same version number, etc). I'd also done an uninstall of the older version to no avail...
For now, I put 2.2.0.2 back on temporarily, and let it resume the torrent downloads (as I have a final to do Monday and really need to keep my time away from studying to short breaks and stuff). I can try again latter.
They had a link to the file, (which though it looks the same, I can try pulling it anyhow), and if that didn't work suggested cleanly uninstalling Azureus, and installing it from scratch. thx for the help... Will see what happens, when I have more time to troubleshoot things...

Oh awesome...thanks for that. I'll have to do that when I get home.
Has anyone else been having a problem with the program causing the entire screen to go black upon opening it? It's such a pain in the ass.

Aye, and it doesn't have the SafePeer plugin that Az does.

I installed the new version of Java and even uninstalled Azureus and reinstalled it and it STILL makes my screen go black. It's such a pain in the ass.
EDIT: Wow...still destroys my system performance if I open a video or do ANYTHING while Azureus is running. This is really pissing me off.

Can't comment till I grab the one off Azureus's site (though it looks the same as the one off Sun's site, for the same version number, name, file size, etc...
The next recommendation is to clean install Az, and I don't want to think of a clean Windows install (the ultimate in cleaning a system up) right now... I do wonder if there might be some bugs associated with 2.3.0.0 which might be biting some of us in the ol arse... With a big upgrade, it isn't unheard of for something to creep in there. There might be a 2.3.0.1 to follow sometime...though I'll withold judgement till I have more time to mess with it. Test taking time (see my reference to this on Friday in the general forum) just isn't time to try to do any in depth troubleshooting...

hopefully a patch or something comes out. I really only use Az at night when I'm asleep anyway, so it's not a big deal, but if this keeps up, I'm switching

I've got Java 5.0, Update 1, and Update 2 installed. I just got through watching 2nd season of The Next Generation while downloading System of a Down's latest album off Az 2.3.0.0. So um...give it another shot I'd say.

What is this safepeer plugin?
Btw. for performance nothing beats Bitcomet. If I use any other BT client with the upload and download rates I get it completely brings my box to a crawl.

Agreed. I used to get 80-90% CPU usage from BitTornado; then I switched to Bitcomet and I get maybe 10% at max.

SafePeer is a plugin that is a dynamic and constantly-updated list of all the known "bad" IPs (RIAA, MPAA, etc) and it blocks those IPs from connecting to you and vice versa.

All right, **** Az. I can't take this anymore. When that program is open, I can't do ANYTHING. BitComet, here I come...
I dont have cpu problems with the new azureus. But it sure as hell doesn't seem to download as fast as the previous one. I could max my bandwidth easily before.. Now it takes ages to build up speed and doesn't seem to go very fast.
Think I'll revert back.

AZ only uses 5-10% cpu with quite a few things going for me. For anyone with probs u should reinstall the latest versions of Java and AZ so u dont have to update them. I had some probs updating java but it works great with the latest full install. gl

Bro, try downloading the JRE Update 3. Might fix your problems. Trust me, Bitcomet eats up more resources, is slower, AND, its resume system isn't compatible with other BitTorrent Clients.
