i know this has been recently discussed. although, last time when everyone was discussing it we were all tricked into thinking the patch was available and this time it actually is.

i thought a few of you might be interested in it. as i have no plans to upgrade to winxp64 i wont be trying it out yet. doesnt seem to be that big of a deal. at least not nearly as much as i think we all thought it would be when it was heard of nearly a year ago.

in any event, here (http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2411&p=1) is a linky to anands review and here (http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/DevelopWithAMD/0,,30_2252_875_10543,00.html?redir=IEGFC01%3fredir =sbfc01) is the linky to download it.

if you end up giving it a try let us all know what your impressions are.

apparently the improvements visually have nothing to do with the 64 bit extentions....but ya it runs a little bit faster considering the win64 platform drivers have not have been tweaked as much as the 32 bit ones.

While I love that they are doing this, based on the comparison shots at Anand, you can "patch" the original to look like that with the CryEngine Sandbox and the SDK.

The water is fully adjustable (bump scale, translucency, reflectivity, etc.), the draw distance of EVERYTHING is easily adjustable as well. The lighting is easily manipulated, as well as the color of the light. I've made maps with very similar looks that perform well. Endless possibilities with the sandbox and the sdk....in fact I'm currently working on a first person rpg, but I could really use a good modeler, as I haven't paid for Lightwave (a.k.a. do not have it), and Blender is a pain to work with.

The patch is about 1.5 gigs, so there must be something that's not apparent in the shots, though that "something" doesn't appear to be textures.

Wah? The patch is only 425 meg. I'm downloading it ATM.

For some reason I though Far Cry 64Bit was aimed at people with AMD64's. So this patch wont run without win64?

my understanding was that originally it was touted as a patch that amd 64 cpu's could benefit from and it seemed to be assumed by most that it would run without a 64bit OS. BUT, the truth is, unless (or untill) somebody creates some type of emulation (which may or may not be possible) the only way to run the new binaries is on x64 OS.

although, like it has already been mentioned, the extra eye candy is not something that only an x64 platform can render. that even seems silly to suggest. it would be nice if somebody packaged the updated textures and managed to patch them into the x32 game. but i dont know that the far cry community is that lively anymore.

time to parition one of my drives and load it with the 64-bit os. So has anyone tried it? Is the parrall mapping there? Those rocky flat surfaces they added on the beach and the supposed superior draw distances? I'm stcuk at school all day..

I can't install patch 1.3 of this game anymore. I always get an error that a uninstalled previous version must be removed first (I have uninstalled the game???) but this never works out beacause an error pops in with a large message...

the thing about this patch.. look at the improved image quailty.. in a 32bit setup, that would hurt performance, but with the 64bit-ness, speed actually goes up a little

Interesting...although it seems the 64-bit version performs almost identically to the 32-bit version. Can't say I'm surprised, but hopefully the extra content will be transfered over to the 32-bit version somehow. Based on the advertising and such, I wouldn't be surprised if AMD pretty much funded the development of the 64-bit patch and 64-bit content.

Yep, they (Anand) say it won't install on a 32 bits os

you need BOTH patches. Thanks I didn't notice that. Kinda stupid that they put it in two separate files. WTF was the reasoning behind that?

The one is only the 64-bit version executables and files, installing that will make the 64-bit version availible to be used with all the original content, i.e. no visual changes will be applied. The second patch is for the extra content so that if you have the horsepower to run it (a decent videocard and such), you can install it and the game will look better, but will run a bit slower as well.

Thanks for the linkys GlowStick
EDIT : hmm they didnt work for me .. Reg is still required.

i'll get them just in case i get to install the Win64-bit in the future , though for the time being i'm not going to.

EDIT2 : AMDZone tested the 64-bit version & looks like the additions looks decent enought to try out if you have the Win64 installed.

So you DO have to have Windows XP 64 installed? Putting the 64-bit patch on 32-bit Windows--even with a 64-bit processor--isn't possible?

You have to have 64bit windows installed to use it. I'm gonna run it tonight, I will have some screenies up.

BTW guys, this is exactly what I saw at E3 last year. Minus the moving tree shadows.
