View Full Version : Link to 9700 Pro at 402 mhz for $429
Where is the link to somebody selling this card, I think OCZ or somebody? It uses the humongous Thermaltake passive heatsink.

The link to OCSystem is right, but you may want to think twice about dealing with that particular reseller.

This is a direct competition to the GFX non-ultra if is infact a 400/900. GFX with 900 in memory speed and ati with better bandwith. Which one will win?

I don't know, but that link you've posted (about 10 times already and twice in this thread) isn't working.
Thanks for the first link, ShadowX. Problem with the X-bit one is I guess you have to set the card up yourself ( I saw the site earlier via a diff. link).
Reason I asked is it seems to me the 9700 Pro is fragile when overclocked. Sometimes you lose the overclock and the card degrades badly; or many have cards that simply died. Just don't overclock? Unfortunately, once you've seen +500 point 3DMark scores, hard to go back to the unoverclocked state.
I feel it might be best to buy a pretested card, so if it dies, or the overclock degrades, the vendor can replace it. Catch is the bad rep OCSystem has. I'm willing to bet it will be difficult to get a card replaced, and who knows when they will mutate to some other company or go out of business. And of course, there's the $429 price.
I know Mike's Pretested CPUs is reliable, but he only offers pretested Nvidia cards.
Anybody know who else sells pretested, guaranteed 9700 Pros? Maybe Gainward?
Another thing to keep in mind is if you think you got a great overclock on a 9700 Pro, try running Max Payne, the opening sequence when the camera zooms in on the door in the bathroom. You will see fine snow. I can pass 3DMark at 377 core, but have to drop 22 mhz to totally clear out the snow. It is very obstinate.
Will this OCSystem card do 405 core in Max Payne? I doubt it.

Considering Gainward is a GeForceFX launch partner, I don't think you're gonna see any ATI products from them in the forseeable future. :)
Yeah I checked, they only do Nvidia stuff. But Nvidia cards do overclocks rock solid. Once you find it, they don't change for nothing.

lol, no, I don't think a GFX non-ultra would even come close. You're talking about twice the bandwidth of the GFX non-ultra.
