Watching it now and it is lame so far compared to Sony's. It is however confirmed SquareEnix is making FF VI and it will be backwards compatible.
So, it has been confirmed that the Xbox 360 will be backwards compatible?

OMG! im not upgrading my computer anymore.
time to save up for these consoles.

tnx for the pics.

Very well said. I can't see spending so much money on my PC anymore. These consoles actually make me freaked out from the amazing graphics compared to my PC that I've spent over $1500 for. OUCH!

From the Sony Con:
512MB GPU
35GB/sec on the CPU to GPU bus :O

Sony's sticking a MIPS and an EE into PS3? PS2 can't play ALL PS1 games either btw. Are they saying PS3 will play *ALL* prior Playstation games?

Not that were aware off, I dout it though... The PS2 cannot play like 12 PSOne titles. The PS3 will probably have the same compatiblity with PSOne as the PS2 did.

Heres the list of incompatible PSOne titles...

Arcade Party Pak; Midway
Atari's Arcade Greatest Hits 2; Midway
Fighter Maker; Agetec
Final Fantasy Anthology; Square EA
International Track and Field; Konami
Judge Dredd; Activision
Monkey Hero; Take 2 Interactive
Mortal Kombat Trilogy; Midway
Tomba; SCEA

Funny thing is, I played Anthology on my PS2 recently...

One thing that I like about what MS is doing is *requiring* all games on the system to at the very minimum support 720p. Is Sony doing the same? It'd be good if all devs had to support the 16x9 modes. That's actually the biggest reason Xbox had limited HD support. It wasn't the framerate or performance hit as some here believe. I have read in many interviews with devs that 16x9 support is the reason HD modes were dropped a lot.

Did anyone notice how Tim Sweeney said PS3 is OpenGL based? Now that is amazing, the nvidia gpu should fly...

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614661p1.html

We have just been updated by our away team at the SCEA conference that not only will 1080p be supported by the system, but that this is considered the standard resolution for the system. Every game for the system will be in incredible, indelible, indubitable HD.

Wow that's really nice. That's great that both platforms require HD now. No more BS 480i.

wtf is up with this comment in that link though:

Additionally, a couple of movies (namely Terminator 2) support 1080p.

?

DVD output is 480p. Is there some special new media I don't know about?

Have to watch in Windows, lol gay.

Microsoft has a WMV-HD format, which can allow High Definition videos to fit onto a regular DVD. Clips of Terminator 2 in 1080p and more can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/content_provider/film/contentshowcase.aspx

It will be interesting to see what else will support the res. NTSC HD standard is locked in stone at 720p/1080i. So we won't have TV in that mode. Perhaps when blu laser goes mainstream in DVD we'll get it.

Yeah I know man. That's not my point. For an HDTV mode to be activated the TV has to be fed the appropriate signal. For a 1080p TV to display true, non upconverted 1080p, it needs a real 1080p source like what it seems PS3 outputs.

I was saying TV won't be 1080p. As in cable TV, satellite TV, broadcast TV, etc. That standard is set by the FCC and is 720p or 1080i, nothing else.

Not for TV, maybe in 10 years. Networks are only allowed to feed 1 HD signal. TV broadcast requirements don't change every year like the gaming industry =) The FCC isn't going to change 10 years of regulatory work on the existing HD standard to support 1080p television. This is off topic, but research all you want about this subject on google.

but my question is why only ONE cell processor ???? xbox 360 is like 3 power pc. I was thinking there will be a buch of cell processors - one for AI and so on..
