That's the only thing I'm waiting on for my system. I thought it was supposed to be out by now. Anyone got any info? Don't even see a place where you can pre-order it...

you don't want it. I saw on pricewatch MSI GNB MAX(the worst every BTW) for $250. I ain't paying that much for a mobo that can get outperformed by what I currently have. I mean, this chipset is so disapponting, you don't want to waste your money on it. ;)

Should I go Rambus?

Nevermind. I've been looking a lot at costs and it seems that Granite Bay will still be cheaper than the Rambus route. So I'll stick with Granite Bay. Got an email from my Gigabyte contact:

Hello,

This board won't be available until the third week of December. You may
purchase this board at: www.newegg.com before Christmas.

Regards,
Leo

He's talking about the GA-8INXP. Not sure of the cost, but I'll pay $250 for it if that's what it takes, cause it's either this or Rambus...

Rambus is not the only solution. the 845PE/GE both support DDR333 and are faster than Granity Bay. i'm sure they're cheaper as well.

don't give in to the hype. dual channel DDR just ain't ready for prime time yet, unless you don't want to buy new DDR333, and want to recycle your existing DDR266. of course, i'm sure in the long run the combined purchase of DDR333 and 845PE is cheaper than just the purchase of Granite Bay ;)

yeah, like I said before, don't waste your time on any GNB mobo. It still falls behind Rambus even tho it is supposed to saturate P4's bandwidth. But nah, it doesn't, falls short of even their expectations. I'd wait for SIS 655 if you must use DCDDR.;) :D Asus P4PE is what I am lookin' at. Just wish it had AGP 8x. But thats a novelty right now, ;)

Reason I'm going for dual channel ddr is because of one thing: overclocking. In a Rambus config, you can overclock, but you're limited mainly by the memory. Single channel DDR solutions are very overclockable, but they still don't reach near the performance of Rambus. Dual channel DDR is an overclockers dream, and I think I'll take the risk with it. Both ASUS and Gigabyte have had good reviews in that they overclock well and are very stable. Just think....having a P4 2.8 with a FSB of 170MHz or higher....and with my watercooling setup I'm sure I can achieve at least that.

If it fails, then I will openly admit it and eat my crow. ;)

I know its a little late for it, but I bet this would taste a hell of a lot better than any crow.:p

actually an interesting theory. although i haven't heard anything about Granite Bay and overclocking. but in theory, it just might work. then again, if the memory controller is really "crippled" then i doubt you'll get much performance out of it. oh well. let us know how it goes if you can wait that long.

If anyone see's places that Granite Bay is selling, please post them here. I was told that they should start popping up this week. If I don't buy a Granite Bay board this week or early next week, then I'll have to go another route. I'm specifically looking for the Gigabyte one that is supposed to come out, but I'll get the ASUS one if I have to.

Look up on pricewatch. I saw MSI and Asus Granite Bay boards there for sale.;)

Yeah...everything is on ETA, and you know how those usually go. Maybe Newegg will have the new Gigabyte sometime this week....

Not sure if you've seen this yet, but the results are pretty interesting.

Nice, thanks for that article. I have my eye on the Gigabyte one though. I've been hearing that it will be out tomorrow on Newegg. I hope it's true, cause I want it. :D

I read a review of the MSI GB motherboard over at PC Stats and it DIDN'T have ANY overclocking features AT ALL!!! Either thats an MSI thing or you are going to be sorely didappointed!!!

If you want some Dual Channel DDR RAM loving get an nForce 2 with an Xp2800+ and two sticks of Corsair XMS 3500 Platinum ;) :p

which means I don't know about other boards but I was stating the facts of the PC Stats MSI GB motherboard review.

I don't spend my time reading Intel PIV motherboard reviews as I don't have enough time and I am an AMD man....

Well if you're an AMD man what are you doing waisting your time in this thread. :p

And if you read the rest of this thread you'd probably understand that Granite Bay has one very good point: overclocking (plus the fact that it's very stable). So, um....geeze, I wonder if it is just an MSI thing.

Because I was sharing the little information that I had trying to help someone else.... Surely you'd rather find out before than forking out the money and realising it doesn't??

I was just pointing it out mate, why all the bother?? If you read the article you'll see what I mean that's why I said that it may be just an MSI thing.

Next time I won't bother...

Ok, good for you. Anyway, it seems Granite Bay still isn't selling anywhere. ETAs were on Jan 2nd before I left for the Xmas break, but now coming back I see they have pushed those back to around Jan 10th and later. I don't see myself waiting that long. So should I go Rambus or just plain single channel DDR?

1066 Rambus if you can afford it.

Otherwise get some good PC3200 (like corsair XMS) DDR and you'll be able to hopefully use the memory if you upgrade to a future motherboard w/dual channel PC3200 support down the road...

Well, what's a good Rambus mobo, how much room for overclocking do you have in a Rambus config, and I'm having a hard time finding 512 sticks of 1066. Is there a good site rather than newegg or mwave to get the ram from?

I would suggest heading over to asusboards.com and checking out the forums to find a nice asus board. I am certain they make a nice 850 board.

I would try checking googlegear for RAM prices. They are great for corsair XMS if you go DDR.

Well, I've been studying a lot of Rambus Mobos. None of them have all of the features that I will need and don't have any of the great overclocking features and stability that Granite Bay provides. I'm just gonna wait....it'll drive me nuts, but that's what it comes down to. Plus I'd still be paying about 200 bucks more for a Rambus config anyway. I think I'll be getting me a Gamecube to hold me over until the 15th....
