We are pretty level headed here too...I can remember when almost everyone here was running a 9800 PRO

A 5800 Ultra will do that to you. :)

Just a thought - considering how much discussion this interview is causing over at B3D regarding developer objectivity, and the possible flippancy of the answer, maybe it would pay for someone in the know to actually contact Mr. Sweeney, direct him to the pertinent threads, and give him a kind of 'right of reply'. Things like this where people rant and rave on both sides of the tracks without any kind of fair chance for response from the person who actually made the statement has always seemed sort of unfair to me. Ahh well, I'm sure all will come clear in time.

Why bother? Let B3D self-destruct by continuing to rant and rave over something so ridiculous. They'll just drive away the few remaining level-headed and sensible members they have left. Besides, they've attacked Epic employees before for saying something positive about nvidia so I'm sure they know B3D is a hostile environment.

Personally, I thought his G70 answer was tongue-in-cheek and certainly not something worth arguing over.

Anyway, getting back to the subject at hand, I prefer Mt. Dew.

I like what OWA just said. Given Sweeney's laugh, his laugh could be interpreted as "that's funny, considering I don't plan on violating my NDA..." and given jakup was wearing an nvnews t-shirt. Also, given that Sweeney wouldn't probably do an interview like that with Rage3d or B3d due to their slant.

The other thing, is that Carmack would probably answer the same way for that matter. Sweeney didn't sell out, neither did Carmack, and it's all about software - which unfortunately for ATI, nVidia's ICD's are still far better.

Carmack oftentimes refers to nVidia's driver as "the gold standard" and "when something breaks, it's usually because of something I did". Given that every major tech push Epic has had was with new features from nVidia hardware, Epic gets to feel out new methodologies and new possibilities on nVidia hardware.

So "G70 or R520"??? Answering G70 could mean he just liked the picture of the chick on the fan of the video board.

Whatever man, for them to call us a fanboi site, just trundle over there and mention the word "Linux" and watch flames as high as sky scrapers surround you with the most absurd justification ever conceived by a reality distortion field.

Steve Jobs, your mentors are waiting at those sites.

I think that if Tim had said r520 to someone wearing an nvnews t-shirt you would know that the G70 was really bad, but for him to say G70 is best tells you nothing. It might be true, but how can you tell ?

It's more than likely that r520 and G70 will be similar in performance. I am hoping G70 is slightly faster due to my nvidia bias and to shut WaltC and Hellbinder up :D

Regards

Andy

Hellbinder has no credbility even with the fanatics. When the Pro was getting reamed by the GT he almost jumped ship. :D

It's hilarious to read the thread that includes the transcript just to see the differences in forums. We all wanted info on the engine and a guy in that thread says

He could have asked him anything he wanted. And he talks about the engine.

Freeman: And will a 6800 Ultra be able to run Unreal Engine 3 with all the options maxed at 1024 by 768?

Sweeney: Yeah, 1024 by 768 should be perfect for an Ultra, of course by the time Unreal Tournament 2007 ships at the middle or the end of next year, you'll have even higher-end cards than that; you'll have four times the performance, so you'll be able to run 1600 by 1200 on those.
Is he being hypothetical or you think he could be working with the G80 already? I mean 4x performance of the NV4x, woah!

Ofcourse it could also be due to the multi-threaded support as well in combination with the G80. Though he specifically says, "You'll have higher-end cards than that." Interesting to say the very least...

*By the way jAkUp, no changes have been made that I can see at Shacknews or Beyond Unrea that credit nVnews or even just you at this time. :(

http://www.penstarsys.com/editor/company/nvidia/g70_spec/index.html
Currently the RSX is still in development, and no actual silicon is available as of yet. Looking at Sony's timeline, I would expect the RSX to be taped out by the end of this Summer, and that first silicon will be available in late Fall. Once all the little problems are fixed and the design is working as it should, Sony will take over production and pay NVIDIA a royalty for the use of their technology.
Thanks Muya, I wasn't aware that RSX hadn't even taped out yet. Wow, that is just awesome! :D

If G70 was suppose to be .11nm and G80 .90nm, I wonder... :goosebumps:
