View Full Version : Trouble running Sli on Asus Motherboard (overheating)

05-24-05, 05:38 AM
System basics:
AMD Athlon 64 3000 32/64Bit CPU
Asus A8N-SLi (Standard)
2x 128MB Gigabyte GV NX66T128VP - GF6600GT
2x 512 Mb Corsair XMS

Hi All,
I recently built the above system and am having problems running it in Sli mode. The bottom Graphics card is over heating and reaching temperature of 92-95 degrees causing the card to produce artifacts and eventually crash the system. Here are some of my observations...

1, Running the system in non sli mode(only one card in motherboard) both of the graphics cards run as normal (59c idle 72c underload).

2, Running in sli mode i've tried both graphics cards in the bottom pci-e slot and they both reach temps of (92-95).

3, In sli mode when the system is idle the bottom GT6600runs 11 degrees hotter.

4. 120mm cooling fan blowing directly over the cards reduces the temps but the bottom card still runs 11 degrees hotter.

Any ideas ???

Thanking you for reading this post it is appreciated.

Had similar problems with my 6800gts, switched to Zalman gpu coolers and now all is well.

Also, having good exhaust for the heat in your case is helpful, if you don't have already.

At first i thought it was bad heatsink contact, but running both in non sli mode the temps are ok. ....seems like i have some sort of problem with the second PCI-e slot ??

Case cooling is ample.
