Hi all I have built a computer with the below parts, and the computer was working for three months until a restart was needed after a software update was done.
ABIT Fatal1ty AA8XE Motherboard
Intel P4 550 Prescott 3.40eGhz CPU w/Silent 775 HSF
eVGA eGeForce 6800 Ultra 256MB PCIex Video Card
2x512 Kingston PC4200 533Mhz RAM
2x Western Digital 160GB RAID Edition HDD
Plextor 716SA Burner
Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer Edition EAX 4.0 7.1 Sound Crad
Thermaltake TruePower 680 Watt PSU
Windows XP Professional w/SP2
My problem is this when first booting the computer up fans turn and lights all up on mobo with a post code of 9.0 and no video on the screen so this is what I did to try and get in to the bios.
RMAS CPU, MEMMORY, PSU - have not received yet so can't test it yet ;)
after replacing the CPU I still got the same thing so I tryed memmory and still yet does the same thing and get this I take out memmory and no changes and I don't get a beep with my case speaker that is pluged up I mean I should get a beep right?.
I then tryed RMA a new Fatal1ty board and still getting the same thing and btw this was all done out side of the case with the above parts used, so I decided to get another board which was a ASUS P5AD2-E Premium board with same componants listed above and I get a boot POST with video so now I adjust my bios settings and blah, blah, blah and go to save and it restarts to take effect of the changes I made and I get a voice that says "SYSTEM FAILED DUE TO CPU OVERCLOCKING" and "VGA TEST FAILED" so I now have to manually restart the computer by turning it off wait 3 - 4 sec and turn it back on and what same errors so I repeat the steps again and same error so I try ounce more and this time I get video agan with out the errors but my bios settings went back to default so I tryed to change them and saved the settings and it does it again.
I turn off the computer and reset the cmos and turn it back on and just tryed using the reguler bios settings but I get the errors still so I tryed RMA a new ASUS board same type and model and does it again so I just sent the board back to MWAVE and refunded it so now I am trying to get a screen with the fatal1ty board with the same componants but some one told me if the PSU goes out that part of the voltage reulations to the ATX molex connections could have gone bad so that was the reason of RMA a new PSU same model and brand so when I get this in I will try and see if this fixes it and hope I get a screen and beeps hehe...
somewhere on the internet I was doing some searching for Troubleshooting power supply problems with google and on some of the links I read on one of them that if you don't get a beep the power supply is bad or a companunt in the rig is bad so I RMAD everything that I could think of already that could had ben a problem and the last to get RMA is the power supply so do you all think the PSU could be the fault here or not?
if this don't work what should I do? I mean it's not a ground error cause it's not in the case and it's not a video card or it would had not worked in the P5AD2-E Premium board but I did use the same PSU you see and all fans and drives did work with the PSU and lights and fans on board lit up but may not be enough voltage to the CPU RAM and Video Bus?
have I done everything there is to do to to troubleshoot here? I mean in gods law of earth and electronics the thing should work like a new rig cause everything is practically brand new now hehe but it's not until that PSU comes in.
