Hi all,

well, wanted to know what people experience are on the following: right now I ahve a GF5900XT, which I am _mostly_ happy with... I daul boot with Win9x and Linux..... I was considering to upgrading to a GeForce 6200GT (AGP8X), which I guess is the cheapest GeForece6 card around... not my questions:

1) GeForce6200GT on Win9x: is it stable? does it actuallly work? the GeForece5900FX works (mostly) fine for me on Win9x with the current Win9x drivers....

2) perofmance: which runs games (older as well) faster, GeForce6200GT or GeForce5900FX?

I am considering the upgrade as I do some openGL programming and there are a fair number of nice, fancy features that are available on the GeForece6 series but not on the GeForceFX (like 32-internal precision for pixel shader and MRT's)

Best Regards

6200GT ??? never heard of it .. if you are thinking about 6200TC (Turbo Cache) then i dont recommend the purchase because its going to be a downgrade for the most part.
even that the GeForce 6200 is a new gen video card with SM3.0 support , a 5900 will be pretty much faster for gaming.

If your a value buyer... id go for the 6600GT as that would be a modest upgrade if your looking to save money over performance.

my bad, the cards are jsut called 6200 (having PCIExpress and AGP interfaces) and 6200TC (PCIExpress only)... I was thinking 6200 AGP, say 128MB RAM.

so a 5900XT is faster.... well I guess that makes sense, pricewatch gives like a price of $110-120 for a 5900XT (AGP) and $80 for a 6200 (AGP) hmm... in truth, when I upgraded my compy, I just now wished that I had done it like in Febuary or January and not in Octobor (the 6600GT were not available at that time here) ... oh shoot.... I really cannot justify getting a 6600GT (at around $170) right now.... guess I'll just wait for the next gen nVidia card to come out for the 6600GT's price to drop like a rock [I hope!] ....

I doubt the 6600GT will drop below $170 ~ $150 for a long time... and when it finally does... it will be completely useless as far as gaming goes :p

Wait for next gen cards first.

Yea your 5900xt has a 256bit memory bandwith if I'm remebering correctly... Only the 6800's and above have that.
