Yeah with Bluetooth not really taking the world by storm I have high hopes for Wireless USB. I won't hold my breath to see any retail products until sometime next year though.

Yea bluetooth gets a big "meh" from me :)

Imagine mobos with integrated wireless USB... no more receiving stations for mice/keyboards :)

so how does it actually work..

as in say i have 5 computers and 5 keyboards.. How do I config each keyboard to only hit one computer?

How about interference?

Here are some whitepapers on it:

I been waited for Wireless USB for a few years. When will it available to buy either Wireless USB adapter like Bluebooth adapter or new motherboards with built-in Wireless USB?

I cant wait to get it so I can get rid of my scanner cable and no longer carry my HP 990cxi printer from the other side of my room to the PC and plug in USB cable to have print outs, with Wireless USB, I can plug the printer to the power socket and bingo I have print outs at the other side of the room.

Sounds like retail products might be available as soon as Q4 this year.

Call me old fashion, but I hope they still give the option of wired connections. In some cases, I don't want to worry about the headache of wireless interference and security and such..

 No you will no longer worry about wireless interference anymore and wireless USB has the same level security as wired USB stated in the white paper. :)

The security level will be application specific - which means not necessarily everything would be secure, in order to help keep costs down. It also means there would be a little more twiddling on the host/computer level. Cool thing about wired, is in order to get the signal, you basically have to physically touch the wire.. (unless you got some really sensitve and expensive equipment that can theoretically pick it up)

Top it off, anything wireless is always succeptable to some sort of interference.. true UWB is going to eliminate lots of it... but then again, its probably going to be a matter of time till that huge freq range gets saturated too.

I think its really cool.. especially for handheld devices that I car on my person.. (have my dig camera perhaps be able to wireless talk to my cell phone to send pics over, and archive them on a small HD sitting in my PDA)

But I'm a bit skeptical.

A Bit skeptical? You should try watching Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise episodes where they used PADDs like PDA, science and medical tricorders, portable video cameras, portable PCs and computers workstations that didnt have cables connected, they all wireless. On Away team missions, they used tricorders to scanning items they across, when here are heavy interferences, they reconfigured the tricorders to get bypass it and when the frequency range is out of range, the tricorders can scan and match the frequency. All these are much the same with today applications. :D
