View Full Version : Big improvement when running 2 GFX cards?

I got a PC in September last year which I really consider my dream system, I have a Geforce 6800 Ultra, but now I'm hearing a lot about motherboards that support dual cards... Is this something I should invest in, or is it really not that worth it?

My system now is an AMD 3400 @2.2ghz 64 bit
Gig Ram (Anyway I can find out the make without opening my case? I believe it's called Corsair or something to that effect)
Gainward GF6800GT At Ultra stock speeds

I just like being on top of the game ever since I was stuck with a Celeron 1.7ghz and a Geforce MX440 for 2 years which has now made me afraid of slipping behind technologically.

I only really play games in 1024X768

Since you play games at this low a resolution, investing in two graphics cards would be a waste.

Thanks,

I only have a 15" monitor, so I can't play in such high resolution, but it really doesn't bug me :)

As long as I can still play games for the next year or so (around the time of Xbox360 and PS3, where games look abosolutely incredible) like I do now without having to worry about bad performance, I'm happy :)

PS. If I set the resolution higher than 1024X768 in Desktop Settings than I can't set it higher in game settings either, right?

correct.

if you had the money to buy SLI you sure could get a decent monitor couldn't you?

I have the money, but there's other stuff I'd rather spend it on such as Xbox360 and PS3 when they're released and a Sony VX2100 which is around $2000

The monitor is a Viewsonic flat screen that was thrown in for free when I bought my PC.

Well for older games getting an SLI setup just to play them @1024x768 is indeed a waste of bucks.
for the newer games though the same thing applies excpet that SLI will help to play them @1024x768,8xSSAA,16xAF,HQ with smooth framerate .. games like Doom3:RoE & SC:CT are good exmaples , but i still dont recommend that unless you get a monitor that support high resolutions.

Yea, its a waste of money unless you play at high resolutions and high AA/AF. (for now at least)

spend the money....it helps our economy grow :).

If you're paying by credit card, not only do you help our economy grow, but then you go into debt and you gotta pay back your creditors along with that hefty interest along with it. And by paying them interest, it allows them to give other people loans that they can pay back interest on which allows the economy to grow even further.

So while it's hurting your fiscal self, you are in fact improving the economy as a whole along with all the other people who are in the same boat :D.

But then if you've just had the money saved up, then you have good fiscal control of yourself and should be proud because getting out of debt is a pain in the @$$ :p.
