That card is going to be enormous

Uh oh...

According to our sources, the card is hot, so hot that we did not managed to even perform a live run. The card is obviously damaged due to heat and upon closer inspection, we saw brown burnt marks around the card, near the PCI Express connector and even at the fan plug. The 10-layer PCB which holds the GPU also suffered heat damage and we saw blistering of the PCB at areas near the GPU.

According to Anand the r520 wont be making a showing at computex and it looks like its been delayed meaning Ati is going to be pushing their multi vpu cards. G70 will be there and im sure they will have the cooling figured out ;)

Is it me or with every nvidia Generation of cards they add an extra inch to the board? Why couldn't NV not have a larger fan rather then a small noisy one? 60mm cust cut through you, why not 70mm? If you go to that site they say there where burn marks and that it gets very very hot. looks like we won't be getting that cooler. Unless the next time you run the HL2 stress demo and see the fire it won't be just on your screen it will be inside your PC too :D

From the looks of it, Zalman VF700cu and Arctic-Cooling NV Silencer 5 should both be compatible with this card... at least, I hope they will be.

Hmm i wonder what version of the 7800 was that .. Vanilla , GT , GTX or Ultra ?
looks to me more like a GT .. i believe the GTX/Ultra version might carry a complete 2 slot cooling solution just like the 6800U.

Quoting AnandTech (http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=2431):

"We can’t say much about the G70 as we are bound by NDA, but all of the cards at the show are single-slot solutions which is refreshing."

I must say that it truly was refreshing to hear that. :) So, there probably won't be a dual-slot G70 card afterall.

If Intel can get away with extreme temps, why can't nVidia? :D :D :D

I sure hope so aswell. G70 might end up being another hotty Prescotty. My past three video cards have been from nVidia (ASUS was the board manufacture for two of them, the third was a Ti4200 I pulled out of a Dell) and I loved all three of them. I'd hate to have to switch to ATI due to heat problems.

If thats true then i'm worried. i'm already experiancing a lot of heat troubles with my current 6800GTs SLI .. even for a single card i didnt like the GT cooling solution.
hopefully nVIDIA knows what they are doing & our 7800s dont end up like this poor chip!

I don't like this one bit. I'm up in the air as to which card i'm getting next-gen, but this has me leaning toward r520. Even if it is delayed. 6800 GT was a good card, but a bit warm, nothing close to being hot considering their "high range temp" but a bit too warm for my personal pref.

Larger, warmer, and consumes more power-that's nvidia's 3 steps to a next-gen card every time. =/ This one reminds me of the 5800 Ultra-heat wise.

Let's just wait for the cards to come out first, before making judgements on conjectures and speculation. mmkay? :)

card is definitely in the range (size wise) of the 512mb 6800ultra, regarding 150W, I'm not really sure about that, might be a really early Engineering sample that needed extra voltage and caps everywhere to function, hopefully the retail samples will be nice and chill.

Is it just me or there's less interest around this generation of products ?

Looking around the 'net I don't see the same hype that surrounded new GPU announces in the past two years.

it's because there's still an NDA...we don't know anything yet to talk about

Why shouldn't Nvidia use a dual-slot cooling solution if the card gets that hot? Doesn't make too much sense...I don't think these news are correct. BTW: The card shown on these photos is from February/05. I think a lot changed in the last few months. I'm very excited about 22th June...We'll see :)

Did anyone soil themselves when they saw it? ;)

I’m really happy to finally see what it will look like but now I need to start saving my money for a SLI System which is going to be hard. What $500 for the CPU and motherboard, and $1000 on 2 video cards.

There will be no Ultra of the GF7800 afaik. GTX replaces the Ultra. And I've read that only the GTX will be SLi capable, so this card in the pics would be the GTX.

Maybe the jump from Nvidia from their FX 5950 Ultra to their 6800 Ultra SLI, was a bit too much too handle for one generation? That's about 8x the shader power in Dx9 in one generation right??? :D

Rumors suggest there will be an Ultra version that will come later after the 7800GTX introduction & will be clocked much higher .. 500+Mhz or something close. not sure , but possible!

People aren't as interested because right now, it doesn't look like the new cards are going to offer much more in the way of features to lure people from 6800 SLI camp to the next gen camp. Of course we don't really know much yet, but still.

WGF1.0 seems quite interesting (not sure if it'll be on G70 though).
Too bad we don't have any info yet about the gpu architecture.
I think ultra will be a 90nm part and boast 32pp.

The card shown on these photos is from February/05.
How do you know this?
