When did the Geforce 6 series first come out. It seems like it wasn't that long ago, and nVidia is already coming out with a new generation.
...we need to upgrade every 6 months... and every six months new games will arrive with new graphics technology and only the new videocards can work on them....

naw :( I wish, but San Fransisco is quite a ways from here :D

I think it was announced this time last year, at a nvidia lan nonetheless

Thats the advancement of technology. Don't worry though, your 6800GT will be able to run games at highest settings for another year (thanks to the SM3.0 support).

It has been a while since they've released something new though since they skipped doing the 6-month refresh this time around.

I preordered mine in June, got it around late June - early July I think. And they were available before that, its just that mine was a BFG 6800GT OC. Hehe, got it for $317 shipped too :D

That might be the first hot game to get showcased by the G70 intro.
Oh, I'm sure of it :) THe graphics are definetely worthy of it. Not amazing graphics, but very good :D

The date of 6xxx series launch was my wifes birthday, who helped run the lan, April 13th 2004.
Another thread about this years LAN has been started here:

If any of you have questions about the LAN only, I'd be happy to answer them.
As stated before, the Geforce LAN website is located here: http://www.geforcelan.com
You might want to register soon. With last years event selling out, this one probably will as well.

Nah actually in another year or so the need to upgrade time will get longer. You may have 1 or two games in the same 3 month period that might possibly push the envelop. For instance oblivion might push the enevelop and need a g70 to enjoy. But somehow i doubt that =) Your 6800 series cards are going to last well into next year as a top tier performance product. But i guess if you have to have 100+ frames heh.
