big perf hit it seems - any word on that guys??

im guessing its just from the higher poly objects and higher rez textures  ive actually decided not to install it cuz i dont want the performance loss. i like playing with all options set to max 1280x1024 with hdr or 4x aa on. wont be able to do that with this pack.

If there is a performance hit I didn't notice it - but then I'm running the 64bit patch along with it. :)

I think the game looks marginally better but there's nothing in there other than the rocks on the beach that jumps out at you and screams different.

yes I believe the only advantage of the x64 version is that u can have the extra content without the hit - that would make sense.

Um, you know it's just marketing right? There are only negligable speed differences between the x64 and x32 versions.

Oh no hang on, 64 must be DOUBLE 32 speed OMG supa

While I initially thought it might be just for marketing as well, after hearing Tim S. also say that going the 64-bit route with UE3 would help with higher res textures, more detail, etc. maybe it's not.

64 bit wont neccessarily make your frame rate sky rocket. What it will do is make it load much faster, make textures load much faster, leave more room for more detail, etc.

64 bit just allows for more detail content to run faster compared to 32 bit not existing things faster. Think of it like going from 16 bit to 32 bit. The games didnt run super faster, they looked alot better. More fine details to textures, better draw distances. Being able to ahve more objects having normal maps on the screen at the same time at the same frames vs the 32 version with less. Games won't get 'faster' just alot more detailed. And i do mean ALOT.

Remember seeing halo for the first time? OMG everything has detail etxtures and bump map and spec! Or so it seemed. Well imagine that but with hdrr normal/parallax/deformation/bump/spec/difuse/gloss/reflect/refrac(all on larger texture sizes 2kx2 area) without an extra perf hit. The list gets a bit longer then that but i think you get the idea.

Read the countless reviews of the x64 patch. Here is a chart taken from anandtech.

The performance diffrence is small, but it does help offset the performance hit with the added content. What this does is allow better image quality (textures, bumpmaps etc.) at about the same framerate.

No one ever said that the 64bit version was twice as fast...

sorry you couldnt see the difference,IF you had ever played the 64bit version.

Games are not all about ruuning at 120 FPS or 120+x FPS anymore, theres a whole new era coming our way with the HDR and normal mapping.

for me now that I have played the 64bit version with HDR,I cant even look back at vanilla far cry.now it looks so sweet and lush, everything feels alot better.

thumbs up to AMD 64 and NVIDIA!

It surprises me when people say they cant see the difference between the 64 bit patch vs the vailla far cry. To me the normal mapping and view distance right away is majorly noticeable.

has anyone tried both the 64 bit version, and the 32 bit "ripped" version? And if so, could you comment on any difference's?

i cant get this to work - ive copied both files to the FCDATA directory - the game looks the same to me - I checked the pier level (thats a lot different in the 64bit screenies) and on my machine its the same now as it is with thte 32bit version???

what am i doing wrong???

Same here .. i couldnet figure any in-game difference except in the 64-bit MP maps.

I can't figure out what is going on. Sometimes I notice a difference when using the 64-bit content, sometimes I don't. I also get some weird stuff happening occasionally. What I'd do is find a place to test, take a screenshot, use the save game command, quit, get rid of the 64-bit content or add it, run the game, use the load game command and then take another screenshot. Anyway, after doing that I'll sometimes see a little more detail especially in the distance but repeating the process, I sometimes won't see any difference even though I'm using the same save game. For example, take a look at these 3 screenshots. One is 32-bit and two are 64-bit. In one of the 64-bit shots there are some differences in the plants, on the wall in front and notice the greenish skin? :)

32-bit.......................64-bit take one.................64-bit take two

Hmm thats strange indeed.

can anyone with the ripped 64-bit content show an in-game places where it should make a difference than the 32-bit ?

OK, here is what to do to made the 64 bit ECU and Patch 1.32 work on 32 bit:

Download both packages:
farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe
and
farcry_amd64_ecu.exe
and from cmd install them on your 32bit OS with
farcry_amd64upgrade_us_uk.exe /a
and
farcry_amd64_ecu.exe /a
this will create an unpack of the installation files on new folders you choose

Copy all the new files over your Far Cry installed files.

So far I can see the offset bumps working in Catacombs level, all the new details on textures: rocks, etc... More birds and vegetation, increased distance view.

What does not work are the new offset textures with small rocks on the beaches...
Maybe these requires the original 64bit exe...
