Hi all, long time lurker here and looking for some advice

got the following specs

P4 2.8C
DFI Lanparty 875B
1024MB Corsair DDR500
Antec 550W

currently I have a AIW 9700Pro and might be looking to upgrade

the card I will be getting will be more of a hold over card till I get a new PC sometime during Xmas (and I will be getting a PCI-E card). Which card would be best for balance to my system (6600GT, 6800, 6800GT). I'm not too worried about budget but more worried about balance. I don't want a card that will be bottlenecked by my CPU and the card will be staying in this PC. Any recommendations would be appreciated or anything from personal experience. Thanks

If you're planning on upgrading as soon as this Christmas then I would go with a 6600GT for now (out of the three choices you gave).

Unless you have no care for money at all I also suggest one of the 6600s. There is no point in buying a 6800gt if you're gonna upgrade in 6 months. If you are buying any 6800 you better be keeping it a while otherwise wait for the new cards to come out and pick up one of them or a 6800gt at hopefully reduced price.

I have to agree. The 6600GT is probably the perfect video card for your system.

6600GT is your best bet.

Pshh... those are SOOO last generation... the MX4000 fully supports DirectX 7. That alone makes it the best card available :D

If you play at high res get a 6800 NU and unlock it.. Otherwise get the 6600GT.

:screwy: TNT? It ain't got nuthin on the Rage Fury Maxx!

Yeah, anyways, another vote for the 6600GT.

EDIT:

Which 6800NU cards are unlockable?

My Chaintech unlocked and overclocked to 350 without a problem. I would avoid it though, its got like a 40mm fan. =O When at full speed it sounds nails on a chalk board. Worst... cooling... design... ever...

your 9700pro could hold you till you get a new system.
U dont hav a pci-e mobo, or else you could buy a 6800GT now and later another..and then SLi.

thanks gentlepeeps for your inputs

it looks like a resounding vote for 6600GT... I'll be looking for the MSI, any comments on that one... the AGP comes with VIVO too :D

Heat issues are fixable--especially with a good budget. I've never had a problem with an MSI vid card, so I say go for it.

BTW: another vote for 6600GT
