16x2 is basically what NV4x is right now:

Each pixel pipeline has 2 FPU ALUs unless I am totally missing something. :confused:

The old style of 16x2 meant 16 pipes with 2 texture units each. NV40 is basically 16x1, but has numerous arithmetic units per pipe.

R520 will be either 24 or 32 pixel pipelines, plus 8 vertex pipelines.

of course, there will be variants of R520 with just 16 pixel pipelines activated, but these will be lowend to midrange versions. much like there are variants of the R420 and R480 with 8 or 12 pixel pipelines.

I wonder if they are refering to Macci Ocing some ATI hardware ;), and then giving the info as "x will do this in 3Dxxx, bla,bla,bla" Same as saying that NV scores a gazilion points in 3Dxxx with Shamino doing the benchmarks

Going back to serious mode.Me thinks both companiea are thrwing fud around, in hope to get a glimpse of what the other is doing.Should be an interesting summer :)

This is what I believed the R520 to be based upon speculation. It will have a nice clock speed on it though.

Woot 3dmark is my favorite game...

7800 GTX score 9xxx 3DMarks 05 and X900 XT PE score 10xxx 3DMarks 05. R520 is as fast as G70, R520 likely do not have 32 pipelines, it could be clock at 600MHz with 24 pipelines. 7800 GTX will match R520's 10xxx 3DMarks 05 by little overclock the core to 450MHz.

G70 seem will be very good chip. :)

I'm firmly in the 16 pipe camp but at high clock speeds and good shading abilities for r520.
