Just a hypothetical scenario given the current friction between the US and China over the Yuan's being pegged to the dollar instead of being floated and given the oil prices instability over the past couple of years.

What if China purchased one or more of the large US oil companies? Hypothetically. Since China is moving to become one of the largest consumers of oil in the world, it is not beyond the realm of reason to expect something like this to happen.

I for one can't see this taking place w/o a major fight by the US administration/private organisations but, what if?

It would be a logical move in terms of expanding their own sphere of influence in the business world... I'm not sure the attempt would get much past the FTC turning it down... Isn't it the Federal Trade Commission that over-sees some of these corporate mergers? I'm thinking of what happened with AOL/Time Warner and debate over their merger/needing approval...

If you ask me saz, the fighting wouldn't necessarily end leading up to this taking place. If this should occur, the US and China could continue fighting over oil reserves in the Middle East and elsewhere, as well as interests connected to this...

BTW, just look at the fight between China and Japan about oil reserves in dispute there... I don't think disputes between the US and China would be out of the question in this hypothetical scenario you bring up...
