Has anyone heard or read any word on the price range of the 7800 series cards? I'm really considering one for my new system I'm building, but I'd just like to know how much it'll cost.

Thank you.

The High-End Model 7800GTX will cost ~550-600$, this is all I know.

That will be the 512Mb version, the 256Mb version will be about $450 to $499.

The Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=23649) got the report from Nvidia partners that a Geforce 7800 GTX cost $357 to make so add $100 more for the retail with all packaging and contents, it seem alot cheaper than Crossfire X850 XT PE's $549 tag.

I'd say $100 is highly optimistic (ie. on the low side), as that doesn't really leave much margin for the partner, the distributor and the retailer. Try $200...

499-357=142$
I'd say that's quite realistic, and top cards use to have a 499$ msrp.
It'll probably be:
7800GTX - 499$
7800GT - 399$
7800 - 299$
Ofcourse prices of 512mb cards will be higher.

I wonder how the 7800 will compair to the 6800GT since they are in the same pricerange...

I still cant believe my card is getting bumped down from its high-end perch already... seems like just yesterday that I bought it. Its been almost a year though... sigh :(

^ yeah right It felt to me like my 6800GT has been the longest lasting videocard I have ever owned.

Anyway if the GT is going to be slower than the GTX "like a 6800 is slower than a 6800GT" ill probably go for the GTX. No way in hell am I getting a 512MB version.

Upgrading to another 256MB card would be like kissing your sister. :thumbdwn:

I’m going all the way with the 512MB version. :p

ill better wait for the numbers to come for 1280x1024 [all hi].
According to that will be mi descision, whether its worth upgrading, and to which model.

Quite frankly, i wouldnt want to upgrade to a PCI-e thingy..jus for a Vid card. i wanna wait for the longhorn compatible cards, but will i b able to resist??

I agree with rohit. These new cards aren't going to be cheap. Better for me to wait until WGF2.0 cards come out in 2006/2007.

My next upgrade will be to the A64 platform. I think that would give me a much bigger/better boost than going to the 7800 line.

And how did x800 become the highest card? Why isn't it x900?

2 words.

To Much!

The price of videocards has went through the roof.
Untill we put our foot down and say we r not going
to be riped off by these videocard companies.
Just stop buying there over priced BS. :thumbdwn:

400 bucks will always be my limit on a VC.
A highend card should be 400 bucks max.

I'm waiting until there is a good enough game on the market that my current card can't handle. I suspect that will be at least the end of the year if not next (assuming a 6800GT can handle BF2 well enough).

I'm just going to sit back and watch the GPU war. :)

YUP!, I'm pretty happy with my 6800Ultra SLI setup. I'll lay low, and wait till next year to upgrade my VC's..... But SLI 7800GTX's will be incredible.

My goal is to play all games at 1280x1024 4xAA/8xAF or higher with all in game settings maxed (minus the AA if HDR is used) and stay above 30 fps (use to be stay above 60fps but I don't think that'll ever happen). Currently, I can't do that, especially if a newer feature like HDR is used. So, I'm sure I'll upgrade to a 7800 series or maybe go with SLI unless I find that it's my CPU limiting me.

Yeah, I keep forgetting about that. That could factor in my decision since I really don't want to upgrade everything just to get the latest video card. Not that I won't but I'd prefer not to have to do that.

The main reason i wanted to buy a 9800XT.. i skipped it for the 6800GT, for games like FC DOOM3 HL2 Return to butcher bay pop2 nfs ug2 etc etc.
In short there were many BIG titles that mi ti4200 couldnt play the way i wanted (that too witout dx9.0 support).
But are there such titles announced now? that the Hi-end gf6 cant handle properly.

As OWA said, mi aim is somewhat similar, 1280x1024 +4xaa + 4x asx [all maxed out].
if 6800gt cant do this, then ill go to g70/r520... or else ...Longhorn compatible cards.

Its gonna be tough for me to resist upgrading. Damn you ATI! Why didn't you support SM3.0 and FP16 blending!

My goal is to play all games @1600x1200,4xAA,8xAF,HQ (Not Quality with optimisiations enabled!) with all in-game settings including HDR & stay above 30fps all the time.
i really doubt i'll ever reach my goal even with dual R520s heh... thats why i should keep upgrading with each generation . my fight for the best video card will never end! ;)
