View Full Version : Battlefield 2 Server/Clan Interests

Anyone willing to get a server up for an NvNews Clan? I would like to see how many people would be willing to donate time (admining) and cash to get us our own private server up and running at launch.
I've been thinking NvNews needs its own servers for gaming for awhile now, we have alot of gamers but only other servers to play on.

Im interested, and its summer so I got plenty of time. :)
edit: how much do servers cost these days?

Depends if its dedicated or Shared and from which company. I have seen some go from 32 player @ $120 to 32 players at $200, those are shared though. If I/We can get a dedicated box with good specs we can set whatever player limit we want.
Does anyone know if a 3.2P4 /w 1GB Ram would be able to run a server with 64+ players smoothly? Some sites say BF1942 has problems with those specs while others say its ok, none mention BF2 though. I can get a dedicated with those specs for about $150 a month.
Still looking into the bandwidth requirements for Battlefield, anyone know BF:V or BF1942s requirements?

If enough people were interested, I would be willing to donate admin time and some $$. I have a few friends that probably would be as well.
Maybe the server could host Ventrilo as well to promote communication?

Well the game has built in ingame speak so Ventrilo wont be needed but it could be used for out of game communication...

Makes sense now, since Pre-Orders are getting Headsets with the game.

This setup sound good to anyone? 64 Players of course ;)
Pentium 4 3.0Ghz
1MB cache for higher performance
> 2GBs of DDR RAM
> 160GB drive
> Plesk** 100 domains
> Remote reboot
> 7mbps of bandwidth
Readme only states it requires P4 3Ghz and 1GB Ram...

"Setup" or included voice support is sometimes pretty shaky like in Counterstrike for example - a proggy like Vent is always smooth and distortion free (plus it is not a hog on system resources.)
Yea an nvnews.net server would be awesome :) Especially since I am a newbie at Battlefield...

If someone makes an NVnews clan, Im in. I usually pWn pretty well in Battlefield games unless I get spawn camped or my team is incompitent. If we all got together and made a clan we could probably kick some serious ass :)
Heres to hoping this game lives up to the hype!
