Maybe some of u brainy peeps can figure this one out?........its killin me!!

Right click on desktop and select new/shortcut...........

What should happen is ......it creates new shortcut and a dialog box opens to fill in properties.........

Whats happening is .......new shortcut is created and thats it!.........NO dialog box....nuffin!!..........shortcut is on desktop called 'new shortcut' but no options to make it do anything?...........even a right click of this only serves to change the name!

A quick few hundred trips to 'file associations' and nothing matters.......

I'll crown the person 'king of the world' who solves this one .......as it has me beat!!.....and I'm clever!

XP64 Pro by the way..........lol........ :p

Well, the dialog box opens for me. If it doesn't you can always right click on the newly created shortcut/properties then change the path of the shortcut. Finally, if that doesn't work, find the program you want a shortcut of and right click/send to/desktop.

Good luck.

Yes it was working m8.......I've messed summit up somewhere LOL!

Right clicking on 'shortcut' dont let me change anything bar the name.........

Finally, if that doesn't work, find the program you want a shortcut of and right click/send to/desktop.

Thats OK....but what do I do for URL shortcuts?

Somethings messed up somewhere and its buggin me.....:)

If you right click the shortcut, you can change the target address. In your case it would be a web address.

Launch your browser and choose the URL you want to go to. Then, drag it to the desktop with the right-mouse button and choose create shorcuts here. Or just find where your favorites are stored on the hard disk and then right-click-drag to desktop and choose create shortcut here.

Maybe this will work. Go to this site and get the LNK repair file that is supposed to restore the default shortcut behavior. I haven't tried this so use at your own risk. He has fixes for several other file types as well.

Here's the direct link: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/linkfile_fix.zip

Nope!

It wont let me change or add anything apart from the shortcut name..........:(

Thx for ideas guyz.........guess its reinstall time!

I'm tempted to try the linkfix.....but with this being XP64........may make things worse?

Just look at the registry entries he changes and maybe you can find the corresponding ones for XP 64.

Yeah.......my fiddling with things I shouldn't have LOL....

I had installed Firefox 64bit Edition and the URL shortcuts had become corrupted for some reason?........I managed to fix them but must have broken summit else in the association settings.......:p
