I hope the 16X AA is with their current SLI (6800) and not just the G7X.

You guys DO realize that you can already do 16xAA with any NV40 card via Rivatuner?

Performance isn't practical expect with really old games, but still, it is alreayd possible.

This 16x mode they're talking about is not the same as the current, inofficial 16x mode...

It sure sounds like it is. 4xMS + 4xSS. There is already a 16xSS mode which you can enable with Rivaturner which does exactly that. It is usable, but not at high resolutions. I find it to be quite useable in Ut2k4 at 1024x768.

current 16xS is 2x2 SSAA (or 4x SSAA like mentioned) + 4xMSAA, so it seems the same..
Not been usable via Forceware before tho, but its listed in nHancer.

I beg to differ. The current inofficial 16x (2x2SS and 4xMS) is much much better than 8xS. If you have lots of alpha-testing textures, this mode makes them so much smoother.

But I'm still not sure if this new 16x mode is equivalent to the old 16xS. The discussion in 3dcenter (german) seems to indicate something else.

As I understand it, the old 16xS is already officially is available for Quadro cards, so it wouldn't be anything new.

Everyone who needs 16x AA must have superman eyes. I can run a game at 1200x1024 with 2xaa and could not tell the difference between 4x, or 8x. The only difference those other modes made was the lower resolution like 800x600 look less jaggy but there is now way i would play a game in 800x600 with a 6800GT.

The big point is that its a mixed mode, so its SuperSampling aswell..
which, unlike MSAA, affects internal aliasing and alphablended texture edges aswell..
If it was 16x MSAA, it wouldnt be very intresting..

Super Sampling Also tends to sharpen textures a bit more than only AF alone. ;)

Well. I got to point something out. As I cant specify right now. Perhaps later, but I am certain that this is not the 16xS we know and love already in the drivers. This is SLI specific. And something completely new.

16x AA is a default option in linux.

Well lets put it this way ... I used 8xAA in doom3 and tried it with 16xAA and noticed no difference but did notice a performance loss for it :)

8xS is 1x2 + 4MSAA
8xS (old) is better IMO with 2x2 + 2xMSAA
16xs is not far from that with 2x2 + 4xMSAA if I remember right.

I dont think they have a completely new 16x mode, may have modded it like they did with 8xS from 8xS (old) but I dont think its going to be something completely different..
Can always hope its RGSS instead of OGSS, think that performs better, or atleast gives better quality on vertical and horizontal lines..
