Right now I have 4 x 256 Corsair XMS PC3200 chips with 2-3-2-6 timings installed on a 865PE Neo2-PFS with a P4 3.0c and a 6800GT. I'm thinking about selling the memory I have now and replacing it with 2 x 512 Corsair XMS PC3200 with 2-2-2-5 timings.

Does anybody know if this is worthwhile? I mainly use the machine for web design, photoshop, and gaming. I'm more concerned if it will help with gaming. I also plan on upgrading to an AMD system later this year and would reuse this memory.

Thanks for any input!

AMD systems tend to be much more finicky when dealing with 4 DIMMs than Intel. So going that way would be a pretty wise move. The fact that you're moving from 2-3-2-6 to 2-2-2-5 won't make much difference on your Intel machine, but when you later move to AMD, those systems are far more efficient at utilizing memory bandwidth.

Well obviously going from 1gig to 1gig isnt going to change things much. It wont make a big difference until you decide to get another gig to go with it (since i doubt you have room for another stick with 4x256 already installed). So I guess, get the 2x512 now, then get another 2x512 later for newer games like Battlefield 2. If you dont plan on doing that, then stick with what you have.
