It seems the new G70 will be officially known as the GeForce 7800 GFX when it is officially released in a couple of weeks. The core will be clocked at 430MHz while the memory will be at 1400MHz. The 7800 GFX will also sport 24-pipelines and will be a PCIe-only solution. I still don't think it will offer "tremendous" improvement over the 6800 Ultra. It certainly won't be as big a jump as the one from the abysmal FX series to the 6-series.

Meanwhile, ATI remains on the sidelines with its R520 waiting in the wings. Some feel that ATI is having trouble with the R520 while others say it is just waiting to see what the 7800 GFX can do before adjusting the specs of R520 to beat it. Who knows? It's such a slugfest between Nvidia and ATI that I wouldn't be surprised if ATI were just playing wait and see. Nvidia could have waited but instead chose to release the 7800 GTX to have the best card on the market. Nvidia could always release a 32-pipe version to trump the R520 after it's release later this year. It just goes on and on and on. That's certainly great for us gamers! :D
