Hello, i work on developping opengl stuff on a precision dell 650
and, in order to use level3 shader, i wanted to change the
5950 card by a 6800. Unfortunately, the precision 650 is fitted
with an AGP 3.0 connector with both 1.5 and 3.3v keys (see http://www.ertyu.org/~steven_nikkel/agpcompatibility.html)
instead of generaly used Universal AGP 3.0.

All of the 6800 that i have seen cannot fit in the Universal 1.5v AGP 3.0
because of the 3.3v key, so if someone knows about a
nvidia 6800 with an Universal AGP 3.0 connector
like that :

i would be
very happy and i immediatly buy three of them !

If you don't have a universal AGP 3.0 it wont work, If the slot has a bracket for the 3.3v key then your out of luck. From what I know of, no 6800 series cards support anything other then Universal AGP 3.0 Port.

If the PC you have is the workstation on dell site then it looks like your stuck to workstation graphics cards. I don't know if any support SM3.0.

If you want to be risky, you could try cutting off the 3.3 block in the slot.

the nvidia quadro 4000 supports shader level 3, we have bought
two of them to drive apple 30" screen, but the agp connector is
the same as the 6800...

So it seems that the best card which can fit a dell precision 650
is a 5950....

I have phone to the dell support, they tell me "we don't sell agp card anymore",
you have to upgrade your (prehistoric) 18 months old computer ...

anyway, thanks for your answer !

I have image to make it more simple. if your mainboard is AGP 3.0 it should have a 1.5v key on the slot.

AGP Pro slots do also have keys.. (Low Key, 1.5 Key, 3.3Key, Full Key).. A universal AGP Pro slot has two keys (Low Key, Full Key)
^^ those keys will not interfere with a AGP3.0 card.. since it fits right between those two keys. (as it should)

I have a image with right now all the AGP cards/slots on the market today..

@AGP situations

note: try making a picture of your AGP slot.. It's easier for me to help you if I know what I am dealing with :D

Thanks a lot !!

I have stopped a station to take pictures of the connector, i don't know why
we coudn't mount the card at first try because you are right, the 6800 connector
is compatible with our precision 650. We have put the box in a place with good light, and the card fits !

Thanks a lot again, i will buy three 6800 and we will continue to develop level 3 shader
for our applications.
