ouch!!!!

even that X850 gets pwned by this game - nice to see the 68GT doing fine although the AA performance is 10FPS down on the X800XL - D3D game i guess.

I think I read somewhere ATi are releasing a driver soon to improve their OpenGL performance alot; are nVidia planning to have a go at D3D performance? Is it a card or driver limitation?

I hope we'll see some BF2 benchmarks next week when G70 says hello. :)
If a 7800 GTX crushes an X850XT PE in this game i'm gonna pick one up as soon as i can. I'm gonna play this game like crazy this summer/fall (rest of the year..). Not that i have FPS problems now, but i'm afraid the full version will be even tougher on the hardware than the demo as it comes with more effects, better lighting etc. I want all eye candy cranked and still rock online. :p

I just shipped off this X800XT today... this is kinda depressing... :(

Man, this game runs a lot better on X800s. That kinda sucks...

Oh well, I run it with everything on high (lighting on medium... to save ram) at 1280x960 with no AA and 16xAF and it looks and runs fantastic. I dont think I get any slow downs at these settings. 1600x1200 chugs a bit and AA doesnt look very good to me, so I just leave it where it is and enjoy the high frame rates. Im just glad this engine is so much better than BFV's.

EDIT: Keep in mind that X800XL is a 512Mb card... so that probably makes up a pretty large part of the speed advantage since this game is such a memory hog.

Is AF really working with the ATI cards??? I read a bit on another site where people were having problems getting both AA and AF to work with the Catalyst drivers.

Personally I don't care which card is faster as it runs very well on my system. 1280x1024 4xAA 8X AF all settings high except lighting on medium.

Looks and runs very well, no stuttering at all. The extra gig of ram I got today will probably make it even better ;).

why?
Because the game seems to run a lot better on X800 cards?

why?

Because im trading it for a 6800GT and $50 (USD). Its a performance downgrade, but I feel that FP16 blending and SM3.0 will make the card more future proof. I also know that the card will do 400/1.1 with stock cooling and voltages.

Does AF work on nVidia cards? It didn't my my X800XT.

Yes, and it looks great. :D

I've been screwing around with the settings for some time now and I found a setup I am pleased with. With the game at default settings, I just changed the "Textures" option to medium from high. The rest remain the same as I cannot see any great benefit from altering: Dynamic Shadows, Dynamic Lighting and Lighting is defaulted at medium already.

In the nV control panel, I am running High Quality - 2QxAA/8xAF - vsync on and it runs real smooth.

My system consist of a P4 2.8 @ 3.4 - 1GB DDR400 - BFG 6800GT/OC

I've also set my swapfile size down to 2mb minimum - 10mb maximum. Seems to quit to desktop alot faster as well. :)

I just wanna play at 1600x1200 w/ 8xAF. I'd be happy with that.

Ya, that's no big deal. I was mainly just trying to find out if I could do some AA w/8xAF at a fairly high res. and it appears to be no problem at all. 16x12 w/8xAF was no big deal, it also happens to be the res. I enjoy more as well. :)

I was surprised this system still has some life left to be honest. Still uncertain what the next system will consist of, though I know it will be SLi and AMD. X2 or 2x Dual Core Opterons is the difficult choice. :D

Memory Performance

In testing out the systems, we changed up the system RAM amounts to check out the performance differences. Going from 1GB to 2GB of system RAM garnered no performance increases on our beefy testbed. We also tested out 512MB and 1GB of RAM on our Athlon 3000+ setup. Once again, the numbers don't quite meet reality head on. While using our setup with 512MB, we experienced lots of chugging due to the large textures swapping between system memory and the hard drive. If you're stuck with 512MB of RAM reducing texture quality to medium or low will help smooth out the game.
Figured as much...
