Well I think im going to be in need of a new PSU soon. My current one is on iuts last leg, every so often I would get random reboots or my pc would fail to start. I figured out it was the PSU by unplugging 3 HDs and testing stability then... well my was going for 24+ hours without an issue...

Im a Sparkle/Forton man, I have used them for awhile now and have been pleased but I want to try some of the other High End brands. I know PC Power and Cooling are one of the best but are they really worth the price? $199 seems pretty dam steep for a 510w PSU. Also im looking for a PSU that is compatible with normal boards and possiblity to be used on PCI Express boards (for next upgrade).

Anyone wana shoot some out there for me? ;)

If there's one component you should never skimp on, it's the power supply. PC P&C are the best of the best. Stable power, good warranty and compatible for the forseeable future. The peace of mind is worth the price of admission.

The OCZ Powerstream are very good also :)

the best of the best IMHO is fortron. they are tried and true, nearly all of the most hardcore enthusiasts can agree to that.

that's not to say that PC P&C isn't as good as fortron, but they cost about 5x as much, you do the math.

One more vote for OCZ, but of the "mod"stream flavor.

PCP&C or OCZ would be my choice.

OCZ Powerstream here. Awesome supply. The Modstream is *neat* but you have more connectors than you need on the Powerstream line anyway, and the 12v rail has a higher amp rating.

the modular design of the modstream rocks as well as the attention to detail. I wonder more how well they will hold up over a few years though. I hope that OCZ aint cut corners with parts, like using cheap caps that end up leaking and stuff.

If you like Forton take a look at the FSP 500W Blue Storm. ;)

I agree I think that Forton, FSP is the right mix and performance for a PSU. I would also go for zippy over OCZ, zippy has some monsters, but are pretty expensive at the bigger wattages. Everyone seems to like Seasonic, over at the silent pc forums. For price and performance your probably not goint to find anything better than Fortran, stick to what you know best.

If you switch and have money to burn by all means choose something else, but remember that extra money could be spent on Ram, or other stuff.

speaking from my experience, i can only recommend:

- PC Power & Cooling, it doesn't get any better.
- OCZ modstream (and probably powerstream, just havent used em personally).. excellent, top notch PSU's, with the modstream 450w being a very aggressive contender in the price/performance category without skimping at all on performance.
- Fortron Source (FSP), one of the best, excellent performance for the money, hard to beat.
- Enermax, not in the same league as the brands above IMO, but still excellent PSU's for the money, worth buying if price is a concern and you find a deal.

I would not recommend Antec.... they've fallen quite a bit from their glory days just a few years back (from my experience with their recent PSU's). Just my opinion of course.

So its either between OCZ Powerstream or PC Power & Cooling, guess it will be decided when I pick up a new MB and VC...

seasonic s12-500. 80% efficient and stable as all get up. and silent... can't go wrong with seasonic.

I am really liking this SilenX PSU. Quiet, stable and 30A on the 12V rail.

The one thing it lacks is a PCIE power lead. I'll need adapters at some point.

Think you made a good choice. The price has gone up a few dollars from when I purchased the one I have. Still, the Forton is the same dependable product as it has been in the past and this particular unit appears to be even better so far. The 12V sustained power feed is better than several 'brand name' unit's I am presently using. BTW, Forton actually makes their psu's unlike most of the 'branded' PSUs.

Maximum PC uses PCP&C psus, I would go with them. But personally I am cheap and I got an Ultra xconnect cause it was on sale. People seem to hate ultra with a passion, ive had no problems.

Just picked up the Antec Neopower 480watt for my new SLI rig. As far as reviews go, MaxPC who is a huge fan of PC Power & Cooling, gave it a perfect 10. It is bare none the quietest psu I've ever used. Its so quiet the only way I know my pc is on now is by the case lights. It can't even be heard over my thermal take low speed fan which spins @ 2500rpm. The loudest thing in my pc now are the hdd's. Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103924) has a rebate for it that expires today that you can pick it up for only $85.00. So if you're interested better hop on it today, otherwise its availible at most local retailers for $149.99

Hmm I was pretty sold on PP&C but I will consider the NeoPower due to its price...

You really can't go wrong either way, just figured I throw that one out there for ya to consider though, esp due to the price advantage.

My vote goes to OCZ, rock stable on my rig, i had the 420 powerstream version before the 600 (i got the 600 because a friend wanted mt 420 ps)
